Quarantine fitness jam

The garage gym is back up and running. I had to shut it down for a few years because cars.

At this point, I'll be able to cancel my lame-ass membership gym which, if reviews are to be believed, will probably require several months of letters and lawyers.

Took a break from running today but hit the weights. It was a pretty solid day - bumped up 5 lbs on my flys and did 5 more reps on abdominables

Wish I had a home gym with weights. If and when the gyms reopen it's going to really suck for a few months. It takes a LONG time for me to get back to where I was nowadays. Least I'm getting enough riding is so my legs will be ok

It's definitely not the same as a gym, but there's lots of stuff you can do with just bodyweight exercises and some dumbbells if you can get your hands on some of those

No dumbbells unfortunately. I TRY to do bodyweight exercises but it's a lot harder to be disciplined about it. Every decade seems to add a month to how long it takes to recover back to your original strength...at some point in time it becomes impossible (I've ready hit that for some exercises :P)

oh yeah, age is a bitch. I used to be able to do maybe 5 minutes of warm before any faster running, for example, and these days I'm pretty creaky and cranky until I'm 2 miles in or so

Maybe order a set of resistance bands?
I've built up a serviceable set of free weights over the years but was thinking of ordering some bands to change it up once in a while. Or for traveling.

One thing about this shelter in place. I've ridden some routes that I never would have bothered to try due to traffic patterns, in the before times. Found a nice one today with a decent climb, but after this is over I'll never get over there again.

I thought about getting some THX bands (I've used those before). I'll have to think about it again since we have had our SIP extended for at least another month

Another good day for me. Its light earlier in the morning and I have no commute so I can run before work, which I love. So I did a 5k this morning and made pretty good time. Hit the weights this afternoon.
Gonna hit em both tomorrow, then a rest day Thurs, then long run Friday, or maybe cycling.

All this exercise is making me crave junk food, but I'm trying not to eat out, so I have a serious calorie crisis most evenings.
So far I've managed to resist the siren song of Korean twice fried chicken but my resistance is weakening.

car speakers mounted in a box? cool
Yah, LOL! A buddy of mine made those out of nice heavy plywood and those old car speakers and gave them to me and my wife for a wedding gift. In 1994. They were on the decks of our houses ever since, until they got retired in favor of some nicer A/D/S speakers, and now are seeing garage duty. Sound pretty good out there!

Hiked up a steep hill and bounded down some deep scree on the way back down the other side of the ridge today.

I had been running about 40 miles per week for a while and then last week I just dropped off the cliff. I think I’m bummed out or something. I know I need to run. It will make me feel right again, but I can’t seem to get the motivation.

I’ve been planing to go for a sub-20 5K this summer, and then a 50K this fall in the mountains, but I’m hardcore on the strugglebus at the moment.

I find it's good to take a reallllly easy (maybe totally off) week every now and then, especially when motivation is waning. Is race cancellation playing a factor? I'm registered for my first 50k race this summer, and it hasn't been cancelled yet, but I think it's fairly inevitable at this point that it will be. Figuring out a solo 50k might be a fun option to keep motivated for that sort of thing

Yeah, I’m looking at maybe setting up a point to point 50K or 50 miler on the AT and doing it with a friend. No need for a big race.

For the 5K, races all seem to be cancelled at about the point when my current block was going to end, but I think my personal motivation is just down because I’m a L&E Attorney and all I have done for two weeks straight is wake up as early as possible and help companies figure out the cheapest way to downsize their workforces. It’s brutal.

Also, speed work on the track is a slight drag. I may need to just de-structure my training somewhat and “listen to my body” for a while. It would be nice to just run for fun with a buddy.
