Quarantine fitness jam

Got a 3 mile run in today but the wifey got stuck working late so I had kid duty and couldn't do anything else.
Tomorrow should be a good one - morning run and afternoon lifts are on the agenda.

I was looking for something else and found this pic of me from about the mid 90’s. Probably 1994. I used to love to run, particularly mid distance sprints. This was me running the 800 in our downtown Tacoma Y track meet. Makes me motivated to get back in much better shape than I am. Not that I would ever match the +/- 30 me. My body does not like to run any more. And my IT band tends to tense up right away giving me back issues. Maybe I could figure out a way to start really slowly and run again, even if just some form running, strides, accelerations, and a few sprints. Although not really sprinting until I worked up to it a long while. I think Galloway wrote a book about running without injury. Maybe I could give that a try.

Got a little hike in today at a brisk pace. A far cry from what I used to do.

Honestly, getting the garage gym back is proving to be a blessing. I'm training how I want without having to accommodate silly corporate gym policies like dress codes and not grunting too loudly.

Yesterday I did a 3 mile run, had a little bit to eat, then did deadlifts.

Running shorts look really dorky for deadlifting but they work great for doing reps.

I never reallyt understood how deadlifting is fitness. I mean I lift heavy things at work like picking up a tranfercase off a floor jack about knee high and setting it on the ground but I never once thought "This is fitness". It's always more like "now my back hurts and i hope i didn't get a hernia"

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

It's supposed to get up to the low 70s here today and I didn't get up and out for an early run, so we'll see how far I make it. I'm anticipating there being waaaay too many people out and having to cut it short.

Ouch. My lower back was tied up yesterday after riding pretty hard on Sunday, and is so again today. I am icing now as I type this. And I took some ibuprofen this morning. I am not sick with the virus that I can tell, so I think it is ok. Thinking I worked both my quads and hams and related muscles pretty hard, and it is tying up into my back. I worked standing up yesterday as the home office chair sucks, but that got tiring too. Obviously I need to add some additional stretching, some kind of renewed and updated core conditioning, and lower spine mobility stuff. And be careful about how I approach more intense efforts. *sigh*. Old fogey-itis. I have been through this before, and it is amazing the neurological symptoms that mimic other weird injuries. such as pain in my right heel that feels exactly as though I split a callous there. But that has not happened. Or an ache otherwise in my feet, or otherwise in my legs. All that stuff is tied together.

As I am pretty much stuck at home, might as well figure out how to work more of that mobility stuff in. Will look into some back mobility yoga as a part of this.

Pain mojo

Didnt time it but this mornings run felt pretty fast. (Need to replace the battery again in my oldschool timex ironman)

Lifted the "A routine" this afternoon. I let my form slip a little after bumping up the weights last week but focused on correcting that today even if it cost me a rep or 2. So I got 9 and 8 count sets instead of 10. When I can get 3 sets of 10, I go up a few lb.

Overall I feel like I'm back in pretty decent shape but still improving - haven't started to plateau yet.

I got in only about 5 miles, but included some good hill sprints. It wasn't as crowded as I thought it might be, but I'm still looking forward to the weather changing again tomorrow. I've only been running consistently since last fall (after years away from running) - I had forgotten what it's like to run with some warmth/humidity (it was only in the high 50s/60-ish, but I'm used to winter running at the moment). I think I've become a non-fair weather runner. the shittier out, the better.

A good polar vortex would make the social distancing much easier at the moment too

Become an ice runner.

Rode 27 miles yesterday up from 18 on mon.

I was trying to decipher a soda machine with unlit buttons and some small town genius voice coming from the darkness gave me an "ain't nothin' but sugar and water man something something something" lecture, like that's not exactly what I want after riding ? miles. It's also cold and carbonated. It's delightful.

Biker garage jams heard so far: You Shook Me All Night Long, Another One Bites The Dust. Biker garage last night was practicing social closening.

I'm a pretty adroit ice runner, if I do say so myself. it's all about the microspikes over the running shoes. (and landing more flat-footed, etc).

there's a reason sugar and water (and maybe salt) is all that's in the majority of sports drinks/gels/etc - it works!

Since my wife is by definition high-risk (i.e. > 60, history of asthma and other such) I am being uber careful, and as such have not had a chance to do a lot of outdoor activity. Combined with the premature ending of the spring club soccer and high school baseball seasons (particularly the former), my normal high-intensity aerobic activity isn't happening. However, I have been doing pushups (sets of 25 at various times of the day every other day) and lifting dumbbells to at least not let my body go totally soft. Fortunately, apparently stress-eating isn't an issue for me. I've lost almost ten pounds since I first started staying at home in the middle of March, so...

I ran 2 miles yesterday. The lungs were fine but the legs are still pretty stiff and tender from running and squats over the weekend.

I bumped up the workouts without a lot of ramp up so I'm fighting through the adaptation.

That stuff'l rot yer teeth Theodore....you should try a Tina's Burrito instead next time

Ran 4 miles this morning then decided to take the afternoon off since it's a beautiful day followed by a few days of rain.
Dusted off my bike and got a little carried away. Rode 24 miles with about 1700 ft of vertical. Not bad for a beginner; I haven't been on a bike in 5 years - but my lungs are strong and I haven't been skipping leg day.

Also I can barely go down a flight of stairs right now

Gonna rest the lower body tomorrow but lift upper body.

I'm envious of youse guyse who can choose to do extra outside stuff when it's nice out in anticipation of upcoming rain, etc. It's the opposite for me - it was still fairly nice today, so I sweated on the stupid stationary bike for 40 minutes and then did some strength stuff. Tomorrow it's going to be cooler and rainy for a few days, so I'm looking forward to getting outside and running and not having to play quite as much Dipshit Frogger (you known, that thing were you have to have your head on a swivel and dodge into the road, then up on a grassy bank, then back on to a sidewalk, then cross the street, etc to avoid getting too close to oblivious dipshits staring at their phones, or walking side-by-side chatting, or walking side-by-side and both staring at their phones, etc)

definitely first-world, privileged covid problems, but still

Got a short little mountain bike ride in today. Maintained distance as well as possible. Used a buff over my face any time I was anywhere near anyone.

Did a 3 1/2 mile walk with the wife this morning (I don't run--running sucks), followed by an ab workout.
Tomorrow morning will be "pushing" day with the weights (buncha different presses basically).
