Shooting at Jason Aldean show in Las Vegas, 50+ dead

What's really awful is that somebody else will top the horror. Spree killers in the USA just keep getting deadlier. It's like each one has to top the last. And there will be the guns to do it.

Has anyone seen the footage they have released? That wasn't an AK-47 or an AR-15 I heard firing. To keep that sustained rate of fire it had to be either belt fed Machine Gun or a one big ass drum for a magazine.

I have not and will not watch any video from this tragedy.

All I will say is you can get a 100 round magazine for an AR -15.

The NY Times has an analysis of the audio (from the YouTube videos) that determines it wasn’t machine gun fire. And the police have reported that he had a device for rapid fire. So he may have been using a crank mechanism to fire quickly.

I thought so too at first, but after listening several times I think he was using 30 round magazines idn_smilie

I *believe* I saw a pic on the news of one of the weapons found in the room, and it was indeed an AR-15.

So still no clue about motive, very strange.

Hopefully his lady companion will be able to offer some insight, I bet some agents are already on a plane to go have a long talk with her.

I hate to bring up gun tech during these discussions because that's what every NRA douche bag does since they have no moral argument.

The police retrieved 23 firearms (20 rifles) from the hotel room and another 19 from his home, plus thousands of rounds of ammo. They say he used multiple rifles during the attack. How did he get them in the room? The police say he brought at least 10 suitcases into his hotel room over a period of time.

While it is premature to make any solid conclusions, this asshole appears to be a stereotypical, frightened gun nut.

I don’t understand why getting weapons into a hotel room would be a problem logistically. Vegas hotel rooms are filled with large families, bachelor parties, TV crews, etc.; a single man coming in with a luggage cart or three would be by no means conspicuous. It’s not as though hotel baggage is ever X-rayed under normal circumstances, nor would anyone ever be questioned “let me see your room key, are those all bags for a small single person room or for a large suite?” It’d be all too easy for someone to do something like this in pretty much any hotel anywhere, but Vegas especially.

Someone at work was in Vegas for a conference and attended the concert. He said he heard the gun shots but did not know if it was part of the show or what; the band continued to play and everyone around him where just looking at each other for a moment, confused about what was happening.

Once the band stopped and the shooting continued, they realized the gravity of the situation and started to flee once the shock wore off. He was able to leave the site with out incident.

He went back to his hotel room and the police were going door to door, having people come out of their rooms at gun point and searching the rooms in the hour after the incident. He commented that it seemed like the police were prepared for a large scale incident since there were so many so quickly and so heavily armed

That's 42 guns. Douglas Adams strikes again.

FWIW that gunfire was full auto. AR-15 is semi-automatic only, the full auto version of that gun is the M-16.

what kinda bothers me, (and i haven't read every story this morning) is that no one seems to be hammering on what seems to be quite obvious. this was a long, very well planned event. the guy has money. where did he get all these firearms & ammo? the 'local' gun shop near where he lives says he's bought a couple rifles and a pistol or two. that's not 20+ and ammo.
and.....sorry for the firearms technicallity....but if you're planning to shoot from 400 yards away, you are going to need a little practice just to know how the bullets are going to fall.
i mean, there's a LOT going on here that no one seems to be keying in on, IMO

My wife and I were talking about that last night and it would seem with the hotel being attached to a casino, they would be more secure than your average hotel.

I just did a google search, and there are a million videos on youtube on how to convert your AR-15 to fully auto. I am by no means a gun expert (I haven't shot one since I was a teenager) but the one video I watched seemed like anyone could easily do the conversion.

The casino floor and employee areas are highly secure with tons of monitoring. The hotel areas are monitored for the comfort and convenience of paying customers. There's a certain amount of discretion afforded to guests. If a rich guy who is a regular wants to drag in a bunch of guns or fetish gear or whatever, who is going to monitor that? As long as he has a room key, he can be as weird as he wants.

There are a few pieces in the action that need to be changed out, but anyone with basic knowledge of machining can fabricate them in their basement...
