The World Cup Thread.....

There should be no shame for the Brits to lose against a team that played like Germany today.

And yes Özil was great. No ball hogging for him (unlike Podolski at times).

Tevez - goal of the tournament contender.

I'm going to be so pissed if Argentina go all the way since I couldn't bet on them out here.

Anyone know what odds they had before the tournament?

Netherlands - not looking very 'pretty' - just very effective.

If your Brazil do you pull Kaká in about 15 minutes to prevent a second yellow card from happening? Pretty obvious Chile is not going to score two goals......

Not the prettiest futbol display ever, but a nice win by Netherlands. Brazil looked all out of sorts after that second goal. Netherlands looking like a pretty good bet to make the finals...

It also helps watching the match with a Dutchman and two people who are here (at work) from Brazil.

Yeah, I'd say it smells like a Holland-Germany final right now (or Argentina for that matter, that match is so open it's impossible to guess). :embarrassed:

And what a final that should be, lots of world cup history there. :)

The other semifinal - which should be Spain vs the Argentina/Germany winner could be quite good as well. Though Spain has not looked very good so far....

I had Argentina as me pre-tourney pick but since I couldn't bet on them out here :gah: and I usually support the Dutch anyways I hope this is the Dutchies year.

Yeah, Spain has the best team on paper in this world cup. But they've underperformed so far (no surprise as they've historically been weak in the world cups).
Torres needs to start scoring goals if they're going to take it the whole way though - Villa alone isn't enough, although he's been outstanding. You can tell Torres is not in match form.
The man scored an insane 18 goals in 22 matches for Liverpool this season (a horrible season for Liverpool even), so it's no doubt that he knows how when he's in shape.
But I don't really see it happening just yet. :embarrassed:

Germany looks pretty unstoppable at this point though.

I would have to agree with that. Other than their second game in group play (which they were sleepwalking through), they have looked really good. Incredible passing - great teamwork.

Indeed. And they keep getting better and better for each match. Impressive for such a young team. :)

A lot of these players (I think 5 or 6 of them) won the youth 21 cup a year or two ago. They could easily be scary good by the next world cup.

What team does that goal keeper for Portugal play with professionally?

He looked pretty darned good, even in the loss.

Just saw that Brazil is going home. Wish I had been able to watch it live. Need to see if I can watch a replay online.

Ghana just finds a way to win. Watching the game you would think Uruguay should be winning - not losing. They don't give up goals and have the wildest offense that seems to just work enough...
