The World Cup Thread.....

Damn, the Germans were good. Assuming Spain beat Paraguay tonight, Spain vs Germany should be a really interesting game.

Myt money is on a Germany Holland final.

Even if Spain go through, Germany should hammer them on the counter attack unless Spain actually start shooting instead of passing around the edge of the 18 yard box until they lose possession.

Yep.

Spain are a bit too inefficient these days imo. Especially with Torres being out of shape. :embarrassed:
And yeah, too much of just passing the ball.

Ze Germans look pretty unbeatable at the moment. :embarrassed:

First semi final day!....come on the Dutch!...:thu:

Yeah. :rawk:

I'm really hoping for a Holland-Germany final. :embarrassed:

I'm not entirely convinced it will be an easy match for the Dutch today though, handball aside Uruguay's defense has been really impressive this World Cup - and Forlan has won quite a few matches practically on his own this year. The cunt. :embarrassed:
The Dutch will need to pull out some of their best play today probably.

So...not long now until the second semi. :embarrassed:

In a way I feel the Germans deserve a final the way they've been playing, but if anyone can stop them now, it's probably Spain (they did just that in the Euro cup 2 years ago). :embarrassed:
Very open match, but I hope the Germans keep up the great play they've had so far. :)

Spain will need to be more aggressive on the offensive side of the ball than they were last game. They kept waiting too long to put the shot on the goal and the defense had time to stop them. Germany is way better on offense than Paraguay so they will need more than one goal. Unless Spain picks up their game (and they are very capable of that) I think Germany will win this one.

Yeah. Spain hasn't played anywhere near their best so far, and that's why they're really dangerous. Torres in particular is a ticking bomb that could go properly off tonight. :embarrassed:

I love the way Germany has been playing though, and would prefer them in the final at this point, although Spain has in theory the best team in this World Cup.

On paper - yes. On the field it has been Germany thus far. And they real scary thing? Germany has the second youngest team in the competition. Or maybe that is whey they are so good. They are young enough that they really don't care who gets the glory as long as they win.

True about the glory thing. Though I did have a problem once in a while with Podolski ball hogging. I think he initially had a problem with Müller taking the spotlight. The last game seemed like he got over that and started to share better.

Yeah, I think it's partly an age thing. These young players fear nothing, and are hungry as hell. And have the individual talents to back everything up.
That, and the obvious influence of multi-cultural background of the players seem to have done them really good. They play very un-German, nothing like the old machine football Germany has always been known for.

And they have this tournament's best player in Bastian Schweinsteiger (already a veteran on the team and still in his mid 20s) imo.
He practically owned the field against Argentina. Hard worker, great passes, insane shots, and is just the natural leader of the team.

Most of this team can play together for 2 or 3 more World Cups. Other countries will have to come up with something really special to be able to beat them in the next few years.

Spain got lucky with the non-call on Ozil.....

It is a chess match right now with both sides waiting for the other to slip up....

Great second half by Spain in general (and Puyol in particular). :thu:
Solid stuff.

They were really lucky with a couple of ref calls though. :embarrassed:
