Could be that the bookshelf speakers are cutting the mids. Some speakers designed for music do that to sound more dynamic. Try to borrow some Bose 201s or so somewhere that accentuate the mids.
The speakers aren't cutting mids (I built them around high-end Vifa drivers), but the receiver has a graphic EQ built in - I may try boosting the mids there.Could be that the bookshelf speakers are cutting the mids. Speaking of Netflix, has anyone else noticed that dialog on Netflix shows seems to be hard to understand? Voices seem sort of muffled, and are mixed low in relation to background noise.
I first noticed this with the British shows - I just chalked it up to different production standards in the UK and the accents. But I've now noticed the same thing with Haunting of Hill House and Outlaw King.
Maybe my hearing is going - that's certainly a possibility since I'm almost 58. But this seems to be a relatively recent development.
I wonder if an upgraded sound system would help? I currently just run the stereo analog audio out of the wall mounted TV into an ancient Sony receiver which drives two bookshelf speakers sitting on top of a cabinet under the TV. Would I get better sound by switching to an AV receiver with a center speaker and connecting things via HDMI?

I’ve had the same problem, usually with British stuff. If I don’t feel like cranking the volume I use headphones (the remote on Roku players has a headphone jack). Sometimes I need to use captions regardless of volume, especially with thick British accents on Peaky Blinders or Doctor Who. I think it’s just bad sound mixing; I’ve never noticed murky dialogue on The Good Place or the shows my kids watch.
What a waste the second season of Daredevil was. I would just advise anyone to just skip it now that the Punisher has his own show. Loved Karen's background episode Deborah finally got to flaunt more of her depth.

I had legit forgot that there were Irish mobsters in the damned thing, with Elektra, Stick, Punisher, that old lady from the Hand, the other guy from the Hand, Fisk in prison, Fisk in prison with the Punisher.... Countless nameless ninjas, trying to give Foggy and Karen ample screen time.....etc....etc.... What a mess. The introduction of the Irish mobsters scene was so heavy handed on the cliches that it almost offended me, and I only have maybe 10% Irish in me.
I just watched that last night, pretty entertainingThe new Coen’s film, the ballad of Buster Scruggs is excellent
Totally a woman ending. My wife loved it, I found it pretentious as all get out, but it didn't run the entire thing for me like the OA did. Now THAT was a bullshit ending.Anybody else find the last episode of Hill House rather unsatisfying?
