Give me something to watch on Netflix

I've been watching season two of Big Mouth and I've been a bit disappointed. It's still funny, but it just lacks something that the first season had.

On the other hand, I thought I was going to die laughing when I saw what Maurice kept his collection of dicks in.

Anybody else watching this season of House of Cards? All involved are trying their best to replace Spacey's intensity, but it just ain't working.

I too watched both seasons of Iron fist and apart from a few good action sequences and stories my overall feeling is that it was too boring. Way too much talking in darkened rooms and that other bloke, his friend who turned bad, well he just got on my nerves.

Just about to finish season 1 of Daredevil which is so far much better than Iron moaning Fist.

Is anybody else just getting burned out on all the good TV? I’m at the point of just not picking up any new shows because there are so many and I can’t keep investing time into what amount to eight or twelve hour movies.

Yes. I can deal with a two hour movie every once in a great while, but serials ... no. Here are the TV shows I've watched more than once since the year 2000:

House, MD
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
X Files
Bojack Horseman

That's it.

I’m trying to psyche myself up to watch Making a Murderer 2. Season 1 was compelling but also left me feeling devastated and depressed.

Hill House... 7 episodes in, and so far not sure what all the hype is for. The constantly jumping time frame may be integral, but it's clunky and clumsy more often than not. Definitely some good "scares" here and there, but they're almost lost in the painfully long periods of WTF. I really hope the final three episodes get off their ass, but knowing it's been greenlit for a 2nd season gives me serious doubts.

Iron Fist/ Luke Cage being cancelled... mixed feelings. I like both characters. The first season of Iron Fist was pretty bad though, and the 2nd lacked any real substance. Luke Cage started off a little heavy handed in pandering to a specific demographic, but gained some really strong momentum. Ultimately though, season 2 pretty much wrote itself out of future viability. My only problem with them getting axed is that it takes The Defenders down with them, which I would have liked to see developed further. Jessica Jones had a great 1st season, but an abysmal 2nd. It may as well follow them out the door.

Daredevil... I love this show. Hands down the best in the bunch. All 3 seasons have been strong, and season 3 had some awesome curveballs. I hope it gets a 4th.

The Punisher... also pretty damned good. Anxious to see season 2.

If you watch "Colony", season 3 is still a long way off for Netflix, but can be seen elsewhere. This show was awesome for 2 seasons. Season 3 was an abbreviated season that was supposed to wrap things up. It doesn't. Not at all. Not even close. If you haven't started to watch this show... DON'T. Fucking Carlton Cuse strikes again. Fuck that guy.

Two Australian shows on Netflix worth watching that are both getting a 3rd season... "Glitch" and "Wanted". Highly recommended.

Also pretty intrigued by "The Mist", "Travellers", and "Altered Carbon". Good stuff.

If you love Stranger Things, be prepared to wait until summer 2019 for season 3.

Binged through Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Couldn't look away even when it kept getting darker and more fucked up. I think I liked it... I mean, its better than Riverdale, and universes better than shit like Twilight... but it is definitely fucked up.

I’m really liking Hill House. Almost finished.

I enjoyed the first 8 episodes more than the final 2, however.

I started it last week and was immediately put off by the differences between it and the book (which I've read like 4 times). I was all "Hey, where the fuck is Eleanor and Dr. Montague?!?"

But after I saw what they were doing, I relaxed and I quite like it despite the "forced" feeling of much of the first episode. that's evened out, though.

I really like some of the cast, particularly young Theo, young Nell, older Nell and the mom, and Shirley when she's not being too bitchy. Young Luke is adorable but older Luke grates on me.

I'm deliberately taking it slow, so I'm about to start ep 6 tonight.

The end of the last episode, "The Bent Neck Lady", was frickin' horrifying, but in a good way.

Hill House

It took quite a while in episodes for me to see why on hiring Timothy Hutton as the older father. I was like "really, Timothy Hutton for 2 scenes in one episode?".

Enjoying this third season of Daredevil much more than the second. The Nun is a nice addition. Wondering what the deal is with the gung ho FBI supersoldier, is he another Marvel character?

Speaking of Netflix, has anyone else noticed that dialog on Netflix shows seems to be hard to understand? Voices seem sort of muffled, and are mixed low in relation to background noise.

I first noticed this with the British shows - I just chalked it up to different production standards in the UK and the accents. But I've now noticed the same thing with Haunting of Hill House and Outlaw King.

Maybe my hearing is going - that's certainly a possibility since I'm almost 58. But this seems to be a relatively recent development.

I wonder if an upgraded sound system would help? I currently just run the stereo analog audio out of the wall mounted TV into an ancient Sony receiver which drives two bookshelf speakers sitting on top of a cabinet under the TV. Would I get better sound by switching to an AV receiver with a center speaker and connecting things via HDMI?
