College football jam.....

ND's defense was smothering all day in the rain and the muck. They stopped Stanford 3 times at the goal line and even in the slow motion of them trying to stretch the ball over the goal at the end of the play, you'll see the side judge was already running into the pile with his arms waving because forward progress was stopped.

Just like every time someone makes a drive on the field, they're stopped, all the players crash down to the ground and then the running back tries to stretch the ball forward after he's stopped. The refs always back the ball up to where they were stopped, not where the player stretched the ball to after he was stopped.

Not even that controversial IMO.

Jake must be a fan of the cheats and thugs at USC. :helper:

I agree forward progress was stopped well short of the goal line. ND's defense is stout to be sure. The Oklahoma games will tell us a lot.

Agreed. It's the game that has been on my radar as the scariest one of the season, but could also garner them some respect in the BCS community.

If they go undefeated they will have a good case to make. Oregon will more than likely go undefeated due to their laughable schedule. I think we are going to see ND, Alabama or Florida, and unfortunately Oregon at the top of the ticket. More than likely Oregon will play the SEC champ for the title. That's a shame because Oregon doesn't deserve to be there.

After Oklahoma puts 45 pts on ND while allowing about 13, I don't think we are going to see those four at the top of the ticket. Oklahoma is probably the only team Notre Dame will play this year that will finish the year with a ranking.

They are probably the best team on ND's schedule, but I don't think they will hammer them by any means. Especially since they lost to Kansas State. I think it will be a closer game than most people think. ND's defense is better than you give them credit for.

ND has a very good defense. However, they haven't faced any powerful disciplined offenses...the best was Michigan, but they're a bit like a crazy uncle.

I thought MSU was good this year, then they lost to ND pretty convincingly. I'm always suspect of MSU's rankings, though, because that team is bipolar.

PSU on the other hand finally won a game, but it was against Navy. And for the record, I always suspect PSU's rankings (no problem with that this year!!), because they haven't had a consistent offense in 18 years.

I heard a few folks tauting MSU. I couldn't understand way. They are an ok Ben Ten school. That doesn't translate to much in the big scheme of things.

BTW the BCS rankings came out yesterday. I have to say I agree with most of them.

The thing is, outside of football and basketball, most of the student-athletes are exactly that: student athletes going to school for a degree (I said most...I'm sure we can all find an example of a less marketable athlete taking the "rocks for jocks" science classes). The big money associated with these programs and the big salaries going to the coaches are obscene, but it's hard to complain when your football program pays for all the non-revenue sports.

As for this particular incident with Jones, well this particular school has a history of "graduating" football players who can't read.

Yeah. And Alabama produces nothing but Rhodes Scholars.

With a few exceptions, college football player at big programs tend to be morons. Who was that dipshit from Ohio State who entire class load consisted of AIDS awareness, Ballroom Dancing, Bowling, and sports management. Something with a S. Anyway I love the idea of AIDS awareness as a class. "are you aware of AIDS?" "yes" "here's your A"

Looks like we're ranked now, and our redhsirt freshman quarterback is generating some buzz. We'll see how we do against a real team, LSU, next week. Good thing we got our wins early before hitting the meat of the SEC schedule. Only need one more to be bowl eligible.

Gig 'em Ags. :thu:

A&M doesn't look too bad this year. They should only have trouble against LSU and Alabama. The rest of the schedule should be cake.

I don't know. The team started off pretty rocky but the last couple of weeks have shown what they can do. They made Texas look like amateurs on Saturday.
It took a little while to re-instill his defensive attitude on the players but they seem to be getting it now.
Interceptions, turnovers, ball stripping and aggressive tackling are his hallmarks and we are seeing that on the field now.
I have a feeling Oklahoma is gonna run the table from here.

CU actually played one good half this week. Then got pummeled 31 - 0 in the second half. At home. Against Arizona State. Their next three games are @ USC, @ Oregon, Stanford at home. I'm guessing they lose by at least 30 each game. Oregon will probably hang 40 on them in a single half.....

That wouldn't surprise me at all.

You know that the folks at Texas Tech are pissed that they are ranked 18th and WVU is still ranked above them after the pounding they gave WVU on Saturday.

I look for WVU to play a good game this weekend. Either that, or the entire team will have given up.

Not having a defense has been our weak point all year, but when you don't have a defense or an offense, like this past weekend, things get ugly. Hopefully the offense can get straightened out and maybe one or two people on defense can learn to...I don't know...play some defense.
