Played my first round of golf today

This was a nice golf weekend, got in two fun rounds. No scoring records, but my swing felt more solid than it has in months. Also got to play a round with a friend and former regular golf bud that I haven’t seen in a couple years.

well, ended up partnering up with 3 other guys and played 18.
front 9 = 48, not tooooo bad.
back 9 = 56, really not good.
i could tell around #13 or so, i was getting tired and my swing started to get more erratic than it normally is.
but nice day and we had some fun.

I did some practice on Sunday trying to implement some of the things my instructor showed me, and I am already noticing some improvement. I was getting a lot more solid shots and hitting them pretty far. I still have a tendency to hit off to the right because my club face is too open, but there is another drill I have to address that that I can do, so I will work on that next time I think.

played friday, 18 holes: 42 on the front 9, 46 on the back 9 for an 88 overall. i'll take it.

played 9 today, for a 41. i'll take that too!!!

I've been slacking a little - it's amazing what starting back work after the Summer holidays does to your free time :embarrassed:

Played 15 last week before the heat got to us. First 9 was really poor but I got my swing together and hit some really nice shots on the last 6 - landed a bogie on a par 4 that usually destroys me so I was happy with that and once I'd did a bit of adjusting and getting my shoulders into the swing, my drives were absolutely flying. Really satisfying after the shocking start.

My neighbour I play with is away on holiday so no course this week but I'll hit the range. I do a 'Planning for Personal Development' unit each year around this time where the kids need to create some small goals to work towards a bigger target. To keep them accountable I do my own and follow through on them.

This time it's: Mr JBJ will improve his golf by:
1. Hitting at least 100 balls per week at the driving range / playing at least one round
2. Practicing the drills coach Gary gives him
3. Read articles and watch videos for tips and strategies to try out.

100 balls a week??
man, you DO have some free time.
i rarely go to the range, but when i do, i never hit more than 30.
i find that the range tends to make bad habits permanent.

100 takes me an hour or so including travel. If I can be bothered it's also directly on my route home from work so it's not a huge undertaking compared to 4-5 hours on the course / 19th.

I had a big golf weekend planned, but was sick Saturday and Sunday.

Did get in rounds Friday and this morning. No scores to brag about, but good times and my swing is feeling pretty good.

And we saw a porcupine on #5! I was too starstruck to think about getting a pic.

My lessons at Golf Tec are progressing well. My main problem now is getting a consistent low point on my golf swing. Made some changes to my setup stance to help it a bit, but I still have a long way to go.

I've found every lesson is introducing incremental changes that adds up to a big improvement overall.

Still got 4 to go in this initial block so plenty of progress to be made. I don't think I'll add more at this stage since it'll be too cold / wet / dark for the course shortly but I'm pretty sure I'm going to join my local club next year so I'll maybe pick up some more early next Spring.

I've had the same experience. Each lesson we work on one particular aspect. The hard part is putting it all together consistently. I would compare hitting a golf ball well to playing drums, because you have to do a lot of different things simultaneously.

played 9 today. shot a 48
tried some new balls today. Wilson CHAOS balls. i guess they're pretty new on the scene.
they're supposed to be long and fast. and they didn't lie. had some good drives. so i'll stick with these for a while.

i have other balls for when it starts turning colder. very very low compression so when i hit it with an iron from the fairway, it doesn't feel like hitting a chunk of granite.

if the course is clear of snow and they're open, i'll go 9 as low as 38-39°F, as long as the wind isn't up. but generally if it will get up to mid 40's, i'm good.

So, I had my club fitting last Friday. We drilled down to the head and shaft that works best for my swing, Callaway Maverick with a 65g graphite shaft, but when we went to order the clubs, the head I was getting was back-ordered until December 8. Now I had seen these clubs in stock at some local shops around town, so I decided not to order the clubs. I went to Golf Mart the next day, and lo-and-behold they had the exact club I got fitted for, shaft and all! They were also on close out, so I bought the set right there on the spot. I was able to do this because I fit standard length clubs just fine.

I also ordered a certified used driver and fairway wood from Callaway's website, and now I need to find a putter.

When we went to practice on Sunday I let my wife try to hit my new 7 iron, and she really liked it a lot. She even hit the ball 10 yards farther with it than she did with the club that Golf Tec loaned to her. As a result of that, I have no ordered a ladies set of the same clubs I got for her.

When I got fitted early this year, the wait was "just" 4-6 weeks before I had them.

PSA: Tiger and Charlie will be playing the PNC Championship (Father/Son/Daughter/Uncle.....) next weekend (18th & 19th Dec.) on NBC & Golf channel.

that is all.

Will be interesting to see how well Tiger can walk and swing.
apparently he was hitting some balls on the range at the tourney last weekend.
he did say he was in no way ready to come back and play a REAL PGA tourney. but that he was definitely going to do the father/son tourney next weekend.

it will be interesting for sure.
