They have quite a few new models over their at SW. Another one that caught my eye (besides the MM, new Juniors, Swirls, and USA Fender 72 Tele Deluxe) is this new LP Special with humbuckers in the recently coveted Pelham Blue.

And it's only starting with an MAP of $999 so in the same price range as an SG Special. The usual 490/498

That's not a roasted maple board. It's obeche. I'm leery of that wood for fretboards. It's only slightly harder than basswood. Here's more info on it.

The pelham blue jr is obeche, and I agree with you it's not a good choice. The stained blue MM has roasted maple.

Yeah. I'll stick with maple fingerboards if I want a sustainable wood guitar. I see a lot of these needing fretboard replacements down the road.
 
I suspect you are right.
I'd try to find a way to get the pelham blue junior, but that board is killing it for me.
That MM is very tempting, but I like the heavier LP Jr body.

Yeh - I'm over here for a while. I fell kind of sheepish. Between business emails, personal emails, I tend to pick one forum and stay there. HC was a better place to buy/sell, but the HC hosting has been piss poor. I swear they are either idiots, or people managing that site as a hobby. It is painfully obvious they don't have a clue what they are doing.

Anyway, I may be here for the forseeable future if HC does not stabilize.
 
I read more over here than I do over there. Basically, I live to screw with a select few over there at the jam.

EG did clear up the confusion as to which guitar we were talking about (the LP Special was just added in as another newbie on the Gallery) but that's some real interesting info you added there.

I was indeed lusting for that Pelham Blue LP Special too, but now looking at the hardness of that wood, it does leave me a bit perplexed why they'd choose that wood.

Well, if you want a guitar that will naturally scallop, there you go! :wink:

probably because it looks the part. and that's good enough for Gibson.
 
But it doesn't look the part. Obeche is naturally creamy-white to pale yellow. So Gibson has to dye it. I can't see any logical reason for using obeche for a fretboard. My guess is that Gibson is using it because it's inexpensive and sounds exotic. Screw it. I'll stick with Carvin for USA made guitars.

you're lookin' for logic in all the wrong places.
 
I just expect a higher standard of quality for what Gibson charges for their guitars. My $250 Malden Bulldozer is easily as well playing and sounding guitar as my LP 50's Tribute. For $1000 I expect at least a maple fingerboard and a case.
