Got an early start today. I still had a lot that needed to be packed up and moved, so I spent two hours doing that. When Dad and Kristi got to my house we began by pulling up all the carpet and about half of the vinyl flooring. Next we swept up and vacuumed all the dust and dirt from the cement. We took a break for lunch, made a trip to Home Depot to pick up the remaining boxes of wood and the underlayment, then got to work with spreading it out. Unfortunately the "click-n-snap" boards do NOT click or snap. They have to be hammered into place and that made it very slow going. We were able to finish off about a quarter of the living room today (which is 17' W x 24' L) so tomorrow we've got quite a lot o catch-up to do. I'll be posting some before and after pics as I go.

For now, I'm grabbing a shower and meeting some friends for dinner, as I can't even get into my kitchen. :messedup:
 
Those click-n-snap boards usually go together easier if you angle them and then press down...if you lay them flat the joints may break...

That's what we're doing, but they still need to be hammered into their final position.

I'm getting ready to start my reflooring project. I did not need to hear that. I pulled the vinyl from our entryway and carpet from the hallway and tiled them. That is as far as I got. Everyone being home and Mrs Ds foot injury put a damper on the project which I was supposed to have finished right now.

Thats pretty unusual. I have laid 2,000 square ft of that stuff at my house and it snapped together as advertised. Same story at spme friends houses Ive helped put laminate in. :shrug:
 
I did my office with the click and snap stuff and the first few boards weren't quite going together very easily. I made a few adjustments to my technique and the rest went perfect.

I found that a very steep angle of "attack" was the trick with the stuff I had.

You have a 2000 square foot house? Awesome, that is unheard of here.

I'm only putting down about 450 Sq Ft. It might start this coming weekend.
 
My house is just shy of 2000 sq. feet and we're doing 800ish of it.

I'm doing something I haven't done in quite awhile. I kicked my cat out of my recliner in the library and am just going to read a book and listen to some music. :)

Definitely this. You have to figure out the best way to get them to lock together. Once you do, it should go pretty quickly. You just need to get a system working.

My Christmas present to Mrs. Rev was a remodel of the Master Bedroom, so will be putting laminate down up there in the next few weeks. I should be able to knock it out in one day, it's only around 195 sq. Ft. Fingers crossed.

That's one of the nice things about the Midwest. My house is 2000 sq feet not including my workshop, garage, or finished patio... and my house is much smaller than many of my friend's homes. The same money would only buy about 1/3rd as much elsewhere.

I only managed to install 200 square feet, just a third of the living room. :(

The vinyl flooring - was it sheet vinyl or tiles? If it's tiles and pre ~1980, there's a good chance that they contain asbestos.
 
I see why you're having such a tough time with the tiles..... You went the wrong direction. You're clicking UNDER the tiles instead of down at an angle and then lay the board down. :embarrassed:
