Achtung! I think we need a refresher on the forum rules....

Where did the world go down this fucked up tunnel to political correctness? Once upon a time we didn't give a shit about whether someone talked crap about someone's religion, politics, ethnicity, etc. We just blew it off or said "fuck off"! Now everyone's a goddamn pansy ass! Oh my, I must have offended someone. I must be punished for my sins. Forgive me father!
I believe it happened some time after Jim Crow, The Holocaust, and back when women still couldn't vote. I miss those good old days, too. :thu:

With in the context of this forum, it's important to remember that it is actually part of Premier Music/Mark's online presence. Some of what goes on here reflects back on his business.

I love it when people (not necessarily here) on the internet shout 'freedom of speech' on forums, when most of them are privately owned and thus rules are to the owners discretion.

The thing I don't understand is that there are a ton places online that allow you to discuss anything you want, post anything you want & be as potentially out there as you want......so why is it an issue to some people when 1 forum decides to place limits on behavior & what can be posted? The people who choose to say and participate with this condition obviously don't mind that much but there's always a few people who feel like they are oppressed & are offended (irony?). It seems nonsensical.

On the flipside of this though, just to play devil's advocate, is that many people who hang out on specific forums often befriend other members so it is only natural to want to discuss matters than may be unsuitable for an 'anonymous' forum. I do not have problems with forum rules, they are there for a reason. However, I think that these should be applied on a common sense basis rather than strictly adhered to at all times (see what happens on TGP).

True...though there's always other places that friends can take those conversations; email, facebook, phone calls, PMs, their own forum/ala Bucky.

I agree with your point on application too. It's probably easier to do that on a smaller forum like this than it is on TGP. Course, IIRC they've been in the middle of some threatened lawsuits in the past so I'd imagine they just don't want any part of the bullshit.

There are a million places on the web to rant about politics and religion. I visit a few of those myself occasionally but but ranting is all that happens there and it gets old quick.
This place is an oasis of diverse people coming together in common silliness. It's a wonderful thing and that's precisely why I come here.

I'm reporting your ass, buddy!

These are good points too. No particular 'rights' exist under the law on this forum and it has a business purpose that needs to be respected. In addition, having some rules makes it a nicer place to be in my opinion. Lots of places to visit to have flame wars if someone wants to.

Very good point. Sometimes folks are sensitive about certain issues, and it is easy to push them over their limit, which then leads to escalation. I can get along with not discussing religion and politics, as long as I can talk about Luna guitars. :embarrassed:

Bloody shill!

I've tried to be less hyper about every little thing that gets posted but I'm starting to get complaints again especially in the areas of religion and politics...

http://markweinguitarlessons.com/forums/help/terms

This is the current forum TOS:

The main theme of the rules centers around the fact that this forum is an extension of Mark Wein's music school, and he has students and sometimes their parents on the forum. Some of these are minors. Try to be nice to them, and not post things that might offend and cost Mark real life business.

So, here are the main rules.

1. No political discussions.
2. No religion discussions (talking about a church band you play with is fine, but the more existential arguments should be avoided)
3. No porn
4. No images of firearms, drugs, etc. (this is a google indexing thing, and the site would lose the click ads that pay for it)
5. No shitstorm personal attack threads. We let you argue, but when it gets really mean, we lock threads.
6. Please avoid swearing in thread titles. You can swear all you want inside threads, but not in the titles
7. Please avoid derogatory remarks related to sexual orientation, gender orientation, race, etc. We strive for an accepting community where everyone is welcome.

I guess it is all pretty much common sense. So, welcome and enjoy the forum. We are always happy to see new members and their gear.

Just wanted to bump this to give everybody a fresh reminder of the rules... Also give myself a reminder of the rules since the forums I worked for previously were a bunch of hardasses with tougher rules. LOL

Well there's nothing in the info you reposted about metal. Just says politics and religion. You just locked a thread that has nothing to do with either. So just spit it out and explicitly say what's bothering you today.
