I've tried to be less hyper about every little thing that gets posted but I'm starting to get complaints again especially in the areas of religion and politics...

This is the current forum TOS:

The main theme of the rules centers around the fact that this forum is an extension of Mark Wein's music school, and he has students and sometimes their parents on the forum. Some of these are minors. Try to be nice to them, and not post things that might offend and cost Mark real life business.

So, here are the main rules.

1. No political discussions.
2. No religion discussions (talking about a church band you play with is fine, but the more existential arguments should be avoided)
3. No porn
4. No images of firearms, drugs, etc. (this is a google indexing thing, and the site would lose the click ads that pay for it)
5. No shitstorm personal attack threads. We let you argue, but when it gets really mean, we lock threads.
6. Please avoid swearing in thread titles. You can swear all you want inside threads, but not in the titles
7. Please avoid derogatory remarks related to sexual orientation, gender orientation, race, etc. We strive for an accepting community where everyone is welcome.

I guess it is all pretty much common sense. So, welcome and enjoy the forum. We are always happy to see new members and their gear.

must have missed the offending threads (unless the Beatles thread falls under religion:tongue:), but of course I will comply.
 
I woke up this morning and discovered that Tiltsta had (rightfully) removed a parody thread with a religious theme. I just want folks to remember that some of their co-forumites hang out here precisely because of the no religion and politics rule...
 
I think this complaint was specifically about a parody thread today. Although it is common sense to most of us it was clearly meant as a joke and it wasn't offensive to anyone, it still lead to a complaint. I am not naming names, but by my experience some people are clearly easily offended, even by the mildest jokes. We are all here to have fun, but simply banning topics because some people are easily offended/have no sense of humour, is a bit harsh. I remember a particular case where I personally poked a bit of harmless fun at our American brothers. Should we then ban all inter-continental banter because 1 individual didn't take the whole thing in context?

I agree that this may not be the place for political and religious discussion or any offensive material for that matter, and I do not object to banning any such threads, but surely anyone can distinguish between a joke and a serious topic?

There are a million places on the web to rant about politics and religion. I visit a few of those myself occasionally but but ranting is all that happens there and it gets old quick.
This place is an oasis of diverse people coming together in common silliness. It's a wonderful thing and that's precisely why I come here.
 
Well, I'm pretty hard to offend, but understand others may have sensitive triggers on certain subjects listed above. It's a fine line sometimes, but I don't see anyone specifically trying to stir up trouble. All in all I'd guess the mods here have it pretty easy most of the time.

I agree but for some reason threads that start out humorous start getting warped out of line pretty quickly around here.

Very good point. Sometimes folks are sensitive about certain issues, and it is easy to push them over their limit, which then leads to escalation. I can get along with not discussing religion and politics, as long as I can talk about Luna guitars. :embarrassed:

True, but that can be monitored. If it goes out of hand, sooner or later someone will alert you. You can then judge what is acceptable or not.
