Found a good deal on a Gibson SG so I jumped on it. The guitar is a Derek Trucks signature model, so it is very much a 61 reissue SG without the pick guard, but in a slightly different finish and with 57 classic pickups. The neck shape is also a bit different than the standard SG 61. I understand Trucks wanted it to feel like the early SG models that had a Les Pauls style neck joint, so this apparently does. It also has the remnants of a Lyre trem that isn't attached to anything. I kind of like the look of it, but I think it was a polarizing feature. Nicely grained one piece mahogany body, rosewood fretboard, etc. Exactly 7 pounds. Looks pretty awesome to me.

Internet suggests that the artist series models never got screwed with by Henry and managed to avoid a good amount of the wood substitutions that came around when Gibson got caught with illegal wood. No idea how true that is. I guess it kind of makes sense that changes to the specs of a model bearing an artists name would require approval from the artist.
