HCGJ Songwriting Contest Round 2 is posted.

I'm not as familiar with yours as i am Prages and Micwalt.

Do you have a soundclick site i can check out? You prolly have mentioned it so i apologize in advance for being dense.

Sure.. I'll post some 'fan favorite' songs for you to check out first, 'cause you might like them since other people do, and it'll save you a lot of hacking around on my site.

Rocket Girl <--- My contest song from last year.

Supermarket Superstars <--- Probably my best 'pop rock' song.

What You're Doing To Me <--- A song a lot of people seem to appreciate.

Here is my soundclick site in full: www.soundclick.com/g33k

Thanks for the interest.

I've got a song I wanted to enter that we recorded a couple of weeks ago but it's not mixed yet. We did it in a studio on tape so I couldn't mix it at home.

I almost pass out from shock anytime anyone mentions micwalt and I in the same phrase. Thanks man - that means a lot.

Don't be shocked.

I was playing some of last years entries for my wife last night. She was impressed with your vocals as well.

After hearing several of the songs she looked at me, shook her head, and said " And you are in a contest against these guys this year? That was very brave....".

And I concur (not the brave part). I'm not in the same league, but it was fun and educational. And I am listening to the songs differently this year....

Wow, those were fantastic!

The talent around here is amazing. As i have said before, i dont know whether to be inspired or discouraged. hahaha.

Anyway, great job. Just one more artist around here i can be impressed with. :thu:

Don't be hard on yourself. Your vocals are especially good. I really can't wait to hear what you come up with once you get all the production aspects hammered out.

Thanks a lot man. But I'm really not that good, other than having the ability to write a melody. If I can do what I do with my limited talent, then every musician has the same ability, IMO.

You just need the drive to want to do it. So, please - be inspired! Nothing would make me happier. :)

You also have the ability to make a $200 worth of gear and software sound like a professional recording studio.

True.

And the key really is just DOING.
Just keep doing them, even if you don't post them anywhere.
Eventually you learn your own little tricks that work for you.

Even if it's just covers, it's great practice :)

Just look at most of the entries in the songwriting contests - the level of quality has gotten a hell of a lot better across the board, even since last year. :thu:

Thus the need for lots of constructive (or otherwise) criticism - and a real drummer. The keyboard player in our band is actually a very good drummer and has a studio in his basement. I just need to con him into drumming on a few tracks for me.
