My two current amps cost me $350 and $200. I've never been able to justify dropping $1600 on an amp when I'm so happy with my cheapies.
With guitars though, I actually seem to enjoy playing the more expensive ones more than the cheaper ones.
I've got guitars that I paid anywhere from $75 to $1400 for. With the exception of the $275 US Masters, I prefer the feel and tone of the $1000+ greatly over the cheaper ones.
I've got an Edward LP that I paid $700 for. It's a great guitar and on paper, it's every bit the guitar that a Gibson Les Paul is. It plays great and sounds great too. But there's a certain feel to the LP that trumps the Edwards. I don't really know what it is either. The necks are very close to the same dimensions, the bodies are shaped exactly the same, the hardware is pretty much identical. There's just something about the feel of the Edwards that doesn't feel as nice as the Gibson.
Is there really a need for me to have even one guitar that costs over $1000? Absolutely not. The stuff that's out there in the $400-$800 range is pretty amazing. I still prefer my Gibson and my PRS and my Wolfgangs and my Warmoths over my Edwards and my Lite Ash Tele though.

Mine was $2500 bucks from the place I have been buying things from for 25 years. This was when they were 3300 or so at MF and the like. It was a once in a lifetime buy and I'm just as content to play a beater as long as it plays well enough and stays in tune. I just always wanted a nice Les Paul to keep forever. This was the first year for the Plek job, so even the factory setup was killer. The frets are highly polished and not a sharp edge anywhere. The nut is cut perfectly (Plek machine does it) I've since set it up to my liking since no one can really know how I like a guitar to be set up but me. Essentially just lowered the action a bit and set the intonation to my playing style (I usually set the G to play a little flat along with the low E). I need to take some new pictures thwap

I would love to play the "good" LPs. Seems like any guitar is hit or miss. My Epi was the sweetest playing guitar you could imagine. Sounded like ass, but I have never played its equal. Cheapo Epi and yet it played amazingly. I have played 2500 dollar PRS guitars that werent nearly as smooth. So to me it just seems like it is a matter of getting a "good" one, whatever the price range.

I really want a Matchless Amp, but will never be able to justify dropping 2K + on an amp. Right now my Benford Teles are suiting me fine guitar wise and neither of them were that expensive. I think my #1 was about $600.00 and it's as nice as any of the $1200.00 guitars I have owned.
I have played a bunch of LPs, and most were good and a few were meh. There was one though, I should have bought it. It was a white LP I played at a guitar center about 7 years ago and it just had IT - whatever it actually is. Tone, feel, mojo - they were all there in spades. But I didn't have the $1800.00 or so that is cost... cry1

And the Edwards is a great guitar, don't get me wrong. If I had to, I could be perfectly content playing it. There's nothing 'wrong' with it at all. There's just something that's not as 'right' with it as the Gibson. idn_smilie

Absolutely. I wasn't trying to say that every Gibson out there is going to be a nicer guitar than its cheaper alternative. It's just that MY Gibson is a nicer guitar than MY Edwards.
What's funny, and kind of sad, is that the US Masters guitar that I got a few weeks ago for $275 may just be the 'nicest' guitar I own. facepalm0

Then there's the fact that I really, really like it. I'm selling a couple of other things, but this one is staying put.
