WTF: GAS is stupid

i've never played a Sterling. i like the Stingray, but can't justify one of those either.

I am thinking about picking up the SUB version. I think they are under $300. I played baimun's SUB at pragestock and it was pretty solid. I gigged with a mm sterling for a few years and loved it. By far the best bass I have ever owned, but I can't justify that kind of cash on a bass either.

i just spent some time in the Warmoth showcase, and can't really justify much of anything right now. i'm at that point where i'm fine with my MIM Precision and it's going to take a huge jump in quality along with a significant deal to get me to change.

Can you be more specific?

I play an ASAT Classic. Tried the tribute version, did not like. Can't say much for the basses as I never got to sample them but I did not like the feel of the guitars. Of the G&L Basses I have tried I like the way the play.

I got that you don't like them. I'm just trying to sus out the particulars of it. Obviously it won't be the same because there's no point in having an import line that's better than the domestic product.

It is just the feel - Personal taste. Nothing to do with the instrument or price.

Baimun Sterling Sub was a surprise. Neck width is smaller and played really well. I love StingRay Basses so this instrument shocked. For a stand in great, sadly if there was a side by side, that would be another story.

now there's a USA G&L on CL for $650. i just can't spend the money. sucks, but it is what it is.

OTOH, i've been getting used to the Precision quite nicely. that comparison to my Ibanez keeps coming back around.

saw three bands tonight at the Mercury Lounge. each one of them played a different bass through the backline SVT. lessons re-learned: nobody gives a shit what you sound like, and an electric bass sounds like an electric bass. my MIM Precision could probably use a better setup, and i can definitely learn how to play it better, but there's no need for an upgrade.

Passed on a great deal today. There was an MIJ Mustang bass at GC for $500. I had a 15% off coupon. But I'm waiting for that Mike Watt bass, so it better be good, dammit.

For the most part, yeah. My buddy Martin gets a pretty interesting sound but I think that's more a product of him being an acoustic bass player first and trying to get the electric to sound closer to that. And you can still get the "showroom" sound out of his rig if you turn a few knobs.
