I'll say this about all my years as a guitarist who plays some bass on the side.
Nothing beats a J bass. Nothing. Thin neck, versatile, simple setup with a lot of tones in it considering.
Jazz Bass = The Stratocaster of bass guitars.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...

OGG is totally correct. J bass is more versatile. Two pickups vs one, as 3 pickups vs 2, two vol knobs vs one...it's truth in comparison. Body style doesn't factor into it.
Embrace it Howie.

You really know how to get my goat, don't you. You've done an excellent job talking me out of it.![]()

Well, you ought to play some P's and J's and come to your own conclusion.
exactly.
it's like, "oh, you think you're getting comfortable on this thing, huh? you're gonna learn to play, right? wrong! you're gonna sit here wondering how you can 'expand your tonal palatte' when nobody else give a shit! yeah!"![]()
Unpossible. No middle pickup. And it's an offset, having been introduced with the Jazzmaster and Jaguar.
The Precision has the strat evolution baked into its body shape. Fortunately, no triple pickup models survived.
