College football jam.....

What does their paycheck have to do with anything.

I really don't get millionaire hate. I hope to be one someday.

Besides, most of those guys didn't start out as millionaires. Its not like a silver spoon situation. idn_smilie

I don't hate them at all, but I have had someone explain it to me. They say the college kids are still hungry and play for the love of the game. They argue that once you get the big paycheck, you aren't playing because you love it, but because it is a good paycheck. They compare it to a band's first CD is usually the best because once they hit it big, they lose the mojo that they had on the first record.

I don't buy any of that, but I think that is the logic.

Most bands have several years to write songs while they are coming up through the ranks. Only the best handful of those songs make it onto their first CD. After that first CD, they tour relentlessly and are expected to release a new CD in a year or two. They are either going to have to write some killer new songs on the road, or dip into the songs that didn't make the cut on their first CD, or both.

I agree with this completely. I was passing on other people's opinions.

Oklahoma always starts off with a couple of no conference games to warm up. Once big 12 play begins, things get tough and only get worse.

I haven't watched the NBA since Payton, Kemp, and Schrempf.

After Seattle lost the Supersonics, the NBA is dead to me. But given what the game has become, maybe that is a good thing.

About my college team, we got beat bad by a good team (LSU), defeated soundly a small team (Portland State), and so I have no idea if we will do ok in the Pac12 or not. I hope we have an overall winning record and get invited to some sort of bowl. We shall see. It is a week off this week.

As regards college vs. pro, I used to really like college better because it had more energy, and the players seemed to treat it less like it was a job in their approach to the game. It was not about millionaire hate. It was that the college kids seemed to spring up after a play and run back to the huddle, while the pros seemed to slowly get up and trudge back to the huddle as slowly as they felt like it.

I am not so sure how true that difference is anymore, and I really dislike the huge stadiums with VIP boxes and stuff. It should be bleachers and seats with a line for food/drink. I really don't like that they are re-doing Husky stadium, and making the actual students even more marginal. They are moving the students to the end zone so they can charge more for the seats the actual students at the school used to occupy. I watched every home game from about 20 rows up, 50 yard line. I think it is bull shit that students of today can't have that opportunity.

So I guess I still like college ball better, but not as much as I used to.

(Man, what a "grumpy old man" sounding post!)

We didn't play much of a team today, but Notre Dame and Clemson are making me very happy right now!

Hey, for my first bet i just put 5 bucks on a 3 game parlay, and looks like i won! I had USC, Notre Dame, and Arizona State. ASU game isnt over yet though, but looking good.

WVU won, but didn't look like a top 25 team doing it.

I watched that game too. There defense didn't look to impressive. The offensive is kind of just the quarterback. They are going to run into some trouble when they get deeper into their schedule.

Did I mention Michigan lost? :embarrassed:
