I can see your view, and I can definetly hear the differences. I just think that they are close enough to compare and if you start requireing bands to be any closer you're soon going to be left comparing AC/DC with only thier tribute bands.

Well, I believe you said earlier In Utero was your favorite album? Based on that album, yeah it's a little harder to compare. Same for Bleach. Nevermind is pretty damn comparable to alot of FF though.
 
Not that this is scientific, but last.fm has FF as 15th on the list of 'Similar Artists' for Nirvana and rated as 'very high similarity'.

Nirvana is 5th on the FF's similarity list with 'super similarity'.

I really hear very little similarity in the music of the Foo Fighters and Nirvana.

That's probably why I find it so easy to say that I prefer the Foo Fighters. Their style of music aligns more closely with what I like to listen to.
 
I like Nirvana. We got an advance copy of Nevermind about a month before it was released and wore that fucker out.

The most fascinating thing about them is that until the internet I had absolutely no idea how many Bonnie Butthurt, half ass hair metal guys blamed Nirvana for preventing them from having a career and "ruining" music.

Like Sad Nav said, I've never run into these people in real life.
