I love nitro finishes but I think the fact that I own and play two Suhrs with poly finishes tells you where I stand on the whole issue.

That argument can stay in whatever HC/TGP crap hole you found it in.

I own one guitar with a nitro finish...my Les Paul.

I'd really like to see an actual figure on how much more it costs to spray nitro vs poly. I know the actual laquer isn't any more expensive, because I've bought it to spray before.

In my experience, nitro is actually a little easier to work with than poly because it blends and melts better than poly, which means that you end up with less orange peel and less sanding in the end. It is also a lot easier to buff since it's a softer finish.

interesting, since the only guitars i've ever encountered "orange peel" on were nitro.

My new PRS has nitro, my other 2 have poly. All 3 sound and play great. The new one does have the best tone of the 3...bit it also has higher grade woods and better pickups, so I doubt one could say what, if anything, the nitro contributes. It does contribute a slightly sticky feel at this point, but I know that'll fade.

its probably the pickups.

I have my Guild DV52, Tokai Springy Sound, Black Warmoth (horribly applied nitro) and my Les Paul all with nitro finishes and they have all seemed to have aged well over the years...

Is 'soundcreation' the latest alt for our good friend Wayne Vinson/Splawn Darts?? If not it should be. Same BS statements masquerading as absolute facts.
