Hurricane mojo, part dos: Irma

My Brother in Law lives in Fort lauderdale and he ,his wife,his Mother in Law and her Boyfriend arrived in the Metro Atlanta area last night and are staying with family.Its very scary for them,I'm hoping they have a home to go back to

They should be OK. It's drifted west and will probably be skirting the coast from Ft. Myers to Tampa, out marginally into the Gulf briefly, then back inland near Cedar Key.
 
Terrible storm.

I saw footage of places where there is normally water, yet the boats were sitting on the bottom with no water. In one place they said that there is normally 8 ft of water there.

Is this because the ocean in some places is being pulled up and moved around by the storm? Like the 8 ft of water is not there because there is a lot of (usually dry land) which has 3-4+ ft of water on it?

yea.....they've been showing it and talking about it for a couple hours here. the storm sucks water out, but then when the other side of the hurricane comes across all that water comes back in along with all the rain that been falling while it was out. and many of the places are going to be at high tide with that water returns, so multiple times worse.

dude.....i don't think it gets to you guys until after midnight. you're north of tampa and they're looking at midnight. it's not good.

Yeah, it'll be awhile.

It's not going straight over us, mind you. The eye will probably be 70 to 100 miles due west. But the worst will probably be when it's SW of us, because the worst winds are on the NE corner of the rotation.

Will do, if possible! I'm a little surprised we still have power, there have been outages in other areas of Gainesville beginning hours ago.
 
At least some have a sense of humour in the face of danger.

Mojo to anyone affected.
I have friends with vacation homes down there and they're worried about property damage and fear for the locals that are their neighbour's. One is on the gulf coast and could be right in the thick of it. The other is north, and I think on the Atlantic side.
