Hurricane mojo, part dos: Irma

Tree people have already been called. Mrs. K will call insurance to see if it will cover any of the cleanup, and/or damage to neighbor's fence. Not sure we're legally liable for the latter, given the whole Act of God thing.

Well, perhaps you can argue that there was a significant anthropogenic assist?

Glad to see the FL guys checking in. We did fine. Some broken things and no power since 11am the morning of the storm but grateful that is all it was. The Keys and the west coast go hammered.

I work for the municipality I live in and I'm on the emergency management team so I've been working constantly since before the storm so I'm not completely sure what day it is but happy to be alive and kickin. My heart really goes out to those hit so hard. Stuff is stuff but riding out a storm that bad has to be absolutely terrifying.

Amen.

Tree update:

Well, it appears that the big tree in the backyard, the one that took out the back neighbor's fence, in fact is not ours. Our next door neighbor had a tree in the extreme northwest corner of their yard, and it fell in a SW direction, into our yard (essentially on top of the tree we had first thought it was). So, if anyone is responsible for the fence, it's our next-door neighbor rather than us. AND, I'm pretty sure that they should be the ones to remove their tree from our yard. Which should probably halve our tree service bill.

Fingers crossed.

Getting word from friends in the Hollywood/Boca area and it's a mess. 10-15% of housing/retail is severely damaged, of those that held together very few will have electricity before this weekend, next to zero gas stations open, temps in the 90s all week and that's an area that got it pretty easy compared to a lot of the state.

8 elderly people died there in a nursing home with no power.

I'll be scarce here for a week. Leaving Friday for DBS with a truckload of fence wood, soffit, and tools. Heading to lowes tonight to load up. Got the tree guy lined up for Saturday so I won't have to struggle with that. My neighbor fixed my broken window today. Good people helping me out till I get there. :thu:

The storm was still packing a punch when it roared thru Metro Atlanta Monday.I couldn't have been any wetter than if i jumped in a pool. I deliver in a very very ruual area and had no cell service so I had no idea noone was supposed to be on the roads after 3pm. We lost power, cable and internet monday but all was back on Tuesday morning. There are still places near me without power

No major problems on my end. Lost power for 35 minutes, cable for 8 hours, and some shrubbery damage. We lucked out big time.
