Achtung! Who else here has a watch fetish?

And involved a lot more Chinese slave labour.
I was just making light of the fact that mechanical watches can seem a bit silly in terms of pure utility (which is obviously not the only reason that people including myself wear them), Debbie Downer.

I do not have a watch fetish at all, but Friday night I was hanging out with some peeps and noticed they all had watches they obviously cared about on. So I asked them what’s up the deal with the watches. This one guy who hadn’t said more than a few words all night started going on and on like a crossfitting vegan. It was kind of neat to watch. (See what I did there?)

I got this one a few months ago. It came with a bracelet but I put a rubber strap on it.

i would like to add to this^^
unless a particular rolex has NO collector value today or ever....NEVER overhaul a rolex. i've seen them on antiques roadshow, in not particularly good shape, but all original, going for upwards of $100,000.
never overhaul a rolex!!!

that is all. :thu:

Good point but I've got a new house to decorate and new hot tub to buy so should probably put the fancy watch selling on the back burner unless my crypto holdings have all of a sudden gone up :embarrassed:

Fetishization for today:

It has a bronze case and is still pretty shiny, but is just starting to show some signs of tarnishing/patina. I've seen pictures of others that got quite dark in a few years, which I'm looking forward to; the antique diving bell vibes are neat but something a bit more low key is more my thing

I dig it.

Bronze diving watches can look cool as fuck.

The bad ones, though, have that steampunk aesthetic, which I really really really hate.

I’ve actually been eyeing this one:

The tudor black bays are very nice looking; a bit steep for my frivolous-watch-buying budget, but also a step up quality-wise I'm sure. I do like the more vintage vibes of the baltic, and it's smaller I think (39mm, which is a good fit for my skinny wrists). I think there are smaller black bays, just not in bronze

This is what mine looks like after a few years.

Did anyone else have one of these cool digital solar system watches in the nineties? I think my parents bought mine from The Wireless (the NPR catalog) and I have no idea what happened to it.

I discovered Chopard yesterday. It seems to be a brand flying below the radar because they don’t hold their value nearly as well as the big names. $20,000+ watches go as low as $8,000–$9,000 used. If my dog’s vet bills don’t break me I could see sinking a royalty check into one of these.

Although not nearly as fancy-pants/expensive as that, I've always thought that a bunch of watches from 'Mr Jones watches' were pretty fun looking in that sort of vein.

(they call this one their most accurate watch)

I’ve had my eye on that one. I really like the mechanical model and it’s relatively inexpensive, but… just wish that it was an automatic.
