We haven't discussed whiskey here in a while...

So, this guy says you can a pretty good representation of Pappy at a fraction of the cost.

I’d like to say I’m going to put it to the test but I’ve never tried Pappy.
So, I’ll just have to see if it’s any good. I picked up my order today.

I also got a bottle of Blanton's Original Single Barrel Select (1 Bottle Limit) and it’s sold out here already.

All of the pappy bourbon are honey weller barrels picked by the van winkles. So it’s the same mash bill just not the cream of the crop barrles.

DO tell us what you think.
i'm working on a lowly bottle of Buff Trace for the last couple weeks.

i like Buffalo Trace. Coupla days it might last here.
i parse it out, and use other brands to make it last. like Old Forester, and Jameson's and Crown.
in ohio, Trace is 'allocated' and my local liquor store may get 5 to 8 bottles at a time.......twice a year
so when i get my hands on a bottle, i take it easy and make it last.

Glenfiddich. I think I found a Scotch I dig.

Ah the Budweiser of whisky :poke::bigg:

Tbf it's probably the gateway whisky for most people that get into Scottish whisky. Myself included.

Lagavulin is VERY peaty / smoky, probably the one bottle I've really suffered through. If you're looking to experiment I'd stick with Speysides or Highlands until you get a taste for it.

They're much easier going down than Islays.

If you do want to dabble in those I'd highly recommend Bowmore. Glen Moray is decent too for the price. Both are nothing like Lagavulin/ Laphraoig levels of nostril burning grimness.

Peat is nasty. Only Scotch I ever liked was 18 years old. Can't remember the name. Think it was a Livet.

yea.....i get that the ingredients that go into making scotch, grow in the dirt. but i'd rather my whiskey NOT taste like that dirt.
hence the glenlivet for me.
but more and more, it's more like Jameson's. no peat at all.

I've been really enjoying Elijah Craig Straight Rye, an excellent choice for around $30. Their small batch runs another $25, so I'm good with the standard.

Also, when I need a break from bourbon and rye, Michter's Small Batch Sour Mash is really tasty at around $43.

Bought a couple bottles of the regular Elijah Craig a month ago that came with a sleeve of golf balls! Perfectly cromulent. My go to anymore is Angel's Envy.

It’s pretty good.

I’m working on my first glass.
I’m still figuring out the tasting notes, but I like it.

Smooth, for sure but still has a bit of a bite.
Caramel.
Honey.

And kind of an oily sensation but in a good way. It’s hard to explain.
It’s not viscous like oil, to be clear.

after clicking on the link you had in your op, it seems the Wellers are a subset of the Trace family.
doesn't surprise me that they're pretty good.
have you tried Eagle Rare ? (another Trace family member)

Eagle Rare is a bit earthy for my taste.
