Played my first round of golf today

i played yesterday. did not do too well. my driver off of #1 was good. but on the rest i kept topping the ball with it, which i don't usually do.
the irons were on and off. the wedges were pretty good. putting was ok, but the greens on this course are S-L-O-O-O-O-W!!
so we all were coming up short.
didn't keep score, too early in the year for that kind of negative feed back

I had a great driving range session this morning, and it made me want to pass on a bit of golf wisdom from a pro we took some lessons from years ago. He said he’s seen lots of people that only play rounds and never practice, and others that only practice and never play. Both of those habits are bad!

I’ve been in the “only practices” group in the past, and recently I’ve been in the “only plays” group. It’s been holding me back. Today it felt great to practice, and I’m going to do my best to get a range session in every week.

I also got a nice view of the 9th green from the range. Our house is just out of view in the background:

I'm hitting the course again today. I'll report back with results tomorrow.
we've been getting rain 3 to 4 days a week for 2 months. the courses are lakes. (flat ass ohio)
this week is SUPPOSED to be in around the low 70's to maybe 80 with NO rain. (yea....right.....we'll see)
if so....i'm thinking of taking off friday afternoon and getting 9 in.
we'll see.

One of the few advantages of living in California is the weather. I can play golf any time of year almost any day, since the chances of rain are very low.

off to my first round in almost a month.....rain.....rain.....rain.....that's all we've had, 3 to 4 days a week until this week.
i guess we'll see how i do. only playing 9. took the afternoon off to play because......saturday: rain. sunday: rain.

Was meant to play today.

Badly sprained my ankle in the middle of the night going for a piss and hitting a storage container full of Mrs jbjs clothes that was left in the landing so cancelled.

She keeps going on about buying a bigger place. I'll be honest given I was in serious pain, I raised my voice like I never have since we've been together and told her I'm not adding an extra room or two for her to fill with even more shit she doesn't need

Long story short, missing this 9 has saved me about £80-100k :embarrassed:

Still dry and hot here. I’m playing early rounds tomorrow and Sunday, and hopefully get back inside before the triple digits and winds hit.

well.....i may have to start using a motor cart when the temps start getting above 80-82, i was huffing and puffing by the 8th hole.
and i work outside doing surveying about a third of the time, so i'm used to the walking part, but that pulling a bag full of clubs and several 20's of water/gatorade and a dozen balls or so....not so much anymore. just getting to old

so the round went well, considering how i've been playing these last 5 years. i shot a 44, which should have been a 39 or 40, were it not for two holes that i miss hit the ball and added 2 strokes to each.
i only had one not great drive, that i dropped the club too early and bounced it into the ground right behind the ball. it still went straight, but only 180 yards. the rest of the drives were in the fairway and about 235-240. not too bad for 65.

all in all, not a bad round.
still gotta work on that keeping my head down until i actually HIT the ball

played 9 today....shot a 49, not so great.
i'm looking for a new "home course". the one i've been playing on is NOT being taken care of well.
bare spots all over all the fairways, and they're like 2" deep grass.
the roughs are a foot deep with seed growing on the top of the grass.
dandylions all over the f''ing place, and i play a Volvik Sherbet Orange ball, so i'm loosing them all over the f'ing place.

Our course is in great shape, in spite of the lack of rain. You should come down here and play a couple rounds with me, @mongooz . :thu:

I had a decent weekend for working on my swing and a fun couple of rounds. No scores worth bragging about though. And we saw a wild turkey this morning. A big fat one!

So went to group lessons last week, brought the whole family…I have been playing for years on and off with the philosophy of trial and error learning…has not really gotten me anywhere…three hours of lessons has made an enormous difference. Prob hitting the range tonight and have 9 booked for Friday. Got a new set of Ping driver, fairway wood and hybrid….still waiting for new set of irons…all max forgiving .

First 18 of the year in.

Ditched the 3wood and played fairways off my hybrid. Much improved.

My shots in general were much better, next step is working on my aim.

The front 9 I hit a good bunch of double bogeys and a bogey on a tricky par 4 dog leg. We had time to kill at the turn so had a few pints. The back 9 was nowhere near as good but still a fun enjoyable afternoon was had.

I played 18 on Tuesday, and I managed to lose a lot of balls. However I had some good drives off the tee on a few holes. My ball striking is still not consistent enough.

Just finished a fun as hell round, my swing hasn’t felt that good in months. I had a bunch of agonizing near misses with the putter, or it would have been a career round. And then that duff into the water on 18 for a triple. Finished with an 89.

After feeling really good on my last round I played absolute dog shit on Friday  at least the weather was nice.

Started reading Golf Sidekick's blogs. They're more about mindset and choosing a strategy that works for you rather than swing mechanics and trying to bomb 300 yard drives off the tee. Going to put it into play on Friday. Work is mad busy jist now but I'm going to try and get 60 balls in at the range tomorrow or Thursday

this is on the UPS truck, out for delivery.....TODAY!!!
now if i can just learn how to swing it decently :eyeroll:
heading to the range after work to hit a small bucket.

well, i hit 30 balls and i was a little all over the place, but i had a number that were pretty good.
it was hard to really tell, since there was a 15+ mph wind from the left, which made a lot of them look as if i pushed them right.....but i don't know, with no or much lower wind i think those would find the fairway ok.
i like it. compared to my Razr Xtreme driver....it's HUGE!!
and it has that nice "tink" sound :thu:
