Master of the Meh
OK, it is Sunday, September 1, 2013. The NFL Season officially kicks off in 4 days. It's time for the Homers to honk their teams, the prognosticators to prognosticate, the trash talkers to talk trash, The doubters to doubt, the haters to hate, the hopeful to be hopeful before eventually having their dreams crushed (read: Broncos fans), the apathetic to profess their apathy...
So let's have at it. It is time to chime in football fans, who are you cheering for? Who will go to the Super Bowl? Who will ultimately disappoint or surprise their fans?
As an unfortunate SD Chargers fan myself, allow me to enter my predictions for this season: They will be better than last year. How much better, is yet to be seen. Now that the Cancer known as AJ Smith has finally been removed, the new GM and coaching staff will have the first real opportunity to work TOGETHER in building a solid team here in nearly 2 decades. Philip Rivers got some much needed blind side protection over the off season, and now he can hopefully return to form without running for his life after every snap. Injuries have already taken a huge toll, but there should be enough depth to get the season rolling in the right direction. Based on the schedule, the Chargers SHOULD go at least 9-7, but the potential is there for them to do as well as 12-4. Split the difference at 10-6 or 11-5 and I think that is very doable.
The rest of the AFC West:
Raiders: They still suck, they might suck less, but suck is suck, and that's just what suckers do... suck. They will go 6-10.
Chiefs: Mixed bag of uncertainty. Hard to imagine they can do much better than 6 wins themselves. I see them likely going 5-11.
Broncos: Does Manning still have the magic? Can they protect him? Do they have the roster depth? Setting aside my personal dislike for the Broncos, I don't see them as being all too formidable this year. The division WILL go to either Denver or SD. I still think Payton is one big hit away from forced retirement, and if he goes down, so do the Broncos. Looking at their schedule, I see them going 11-5 at best, and that is only IF Manning stays sharp and healthy. Realistically, they look more like a 9-7 team.
What say the Weiners?
