Yesterday..

I'm walking into the main HQ bldg. here at work, and out of nowhere, my left eye blurred over with black steaks and spots. I left the meeting there, went home and fell asleep.

Woke up this morning hoping it was gone, still there.

I'm waiting to make a call to my eye doctor.

Anyone have this happen?

That's no good...do you get any bright flashes? I had to get my retina spot-welded once and they always ask me about flashes, they would be an indication that it is coming detached. If that isn't it I got nothin', but I hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

I get those. Its usually both eyes at once for me and it only lasts 20-30 before my vision returns though. This sounds different. Possibly closer to Tiger Roach's detached retina.

I have a friend that gets OMs that sound a lot like the OP description but yeah, they're usually gone after an hour or so of him resting.

ocular migraine?

Now I'm acutely aware of anything I may have been ignoring, no extreme pain, but I am feeling a dull throbbing in both eyes.

And Tiger, I did have some white streaks but mostly black.

Been calling around, it's definitely a retina issue, and there isn't a specialist anywhere today. I'd have to go to Mobile, AL, closest doc available.

I get these from time to time. Mine start with slight vision impairment followed by streaks (like long floaters) crossing my vision path with purple shading. If I take Tylenol at the very beginning I can usually get through it in a couple hours. If I don't a headache develops and I have to go home and lay down in the dark.

Yup -- sounds like a detached retina or retinal artery occlusion (i.e. "eye stroke"). I would agree that sooner is best to see a Dr.

This, get in the Dr pronto. This happened to my brother and he went to see the eye Dr and they did surgery immediately. If you let a detached retina go, it could lead to total loss of vision in that eye.

Just got back from a local ophthalmologist, dilated my pupils and can't see worth a crap. Tomorrow have to be in Mobile, AL for either a torn or detached retina.
