Since I was a boy I have always been fascinated by martial arts. I did a stint of Aikido about 10 years ago, and as part of my vow to get fit again I recently joined Tae Kwon Do. Only done a few classes and I am sort 24 hours a day. Makes me feel good though and I spend a lot of time outside classes practicing at home ( much to the amusement of my daughter - "daddy, you're silly" ).

Due to my Indonesian background, I am still looking to learn Pencak Silat, however there is currently no school near where I live :(

Who here is into martial arts and which one and what level?

I'm not, but my son, age 8, recently received his first dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He's really quite good at it (ie: he has really good form).

Not currently, but I did basically what Deep Eddy's son did, except I was a few years older. I'd really like to get back into it.

I'm not much of a "gym" person, I really don't think I could ever get myself into a routine of going to just a regular gym, but with the group thing something like martial arts would be good for me.

I beat the living shit out of a bottle of tequila last night

does that count?
I mean, I'm still standing (more or less), and the bottle ain't, so....

I took about 5 lessons of TKD when I was young, broke a toe the first day we started kicking.
never went back

I have a Chuck Norris action figure
that's gotta count for something, right?

I never did get the new Bruce Lee one though, too much money. $200+....fuck that

I watched Kung Fu movies when I was a kid.
Penn & Teller did an episode on their show Bullshit about how useless martial arts is and what a scam it is.

My son is taking Karate at a local dojo. I was thinking about joiing him but I can't eke out the time in my schedule. :(

Years ago I had a roommate who taught a women-only martial arts class... primarily so he could meet women. At night he would get roaring drunk and wander around the apartment twirling his nunchucks.

And that's about all I know about it.

The movies are AWESOME! The actual practice and dedication is something I would be better served applying to music since it brings me infinite joy...at least some of it.
