Well, what was the greatest live show you ever saw?

I know (according to internet accounts), 3 billion people were in attendance for the last Led Zeppelin show ever. The final show with Keith Moon drew over 2.4 million folks...but really, what was the most draw-dropping, heart stopping, mind melting concert you have ever been to?


For me, I would have to say Rush, probably '93 tour for Counterparts where they played "Cold Fire".
I first saw them on the Presto tour, and my draw dropped open. Neil just got better in the future tours.

I did see some early U2 tours where Bono climbed the stage scaffolding and sang The Electric Co. that were pretty cool, too.

Saw Buddy Guy, enough said about that.

Where were you when your mouth dropped open in awe of a an awesome rock show?
 
Edit: I first saw Rush on the Grace Under Pressure album (I think? Hold Your Fire?), it was mostly electronic drums, didn't do much for me.....
Just figured I would add that. It wasn't until the tour listed above that I finally kind of "got it" with him. I was blown away.
 
I saw Nine Inch Nails live at Lollapalooza in 2008, and it was fucking awesome. They dropped a scrim with lights woven in it in front of the stage, and they would periodicaly drop the lights out at certain points so you could see various band members doing their thing. Plus i was in the mosh pit for March of the Pigs (which is like, 270BPM)
 
Geez, how many times have I seen Rush? Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure.

3 in Boston or Worcester
1 in Provicence
2 outside in NJ
3 inside in Phi
1 in MD (washington?)
1 in Washington (VA?)
1 in Allentown, PA (it was sooooooooooo hot outside. Venue was a dump)
1 in NYC (I was drunk, had a great time. Got a ticket for public drinking).

???
 
Nothing beats getting to see Pink Floyd live on their last tour (Division Bell tour) 15 or so years ago for me. :thu:
The last half with the entire Dark Side of The Moon + the usual encores = :love:

Saw that one at Sullivan Stadium (where the Patriots now play, whatever they call it these days). I was on acid.
 
Hmmmm, i dunno. Maybe Deep Purple Perfect Strangers tour. I loved that one.

I've seen several concerts that came close, but that's something I'll never forget.
 
Grateful Dead (Jerry in shorts) with Sting opening in Las vegas 93', just the whole surreal craziness of "Welcome Deadheads" banners hanging at different places like casinos and 7-11's and hippies and tie dies all over the casinos and the strip, no sleep for 48 hours...it was sheer insanity.
 
I think Yes in 2002 for the musicianship/astounding playing.

For stupid spectacle and fun, Kiss on the reunion tour in 96. :az:

i've seen Gorillaz both times they've playing mid-sized venues in NYC. the first time was at the Hammerstein Ballroom when the first album came out. the entire band played behind a giant black screen. in front of the screen, they ran graffiti images so you could see the band as shadows, and then their animation sequences were shown above. crazy show, lots of drugs around me, and though i was sober it didn't seem to matter. i left with little to no motor skills.

for the second album, they played the Apollo with an all-star ensemble. you had the band, an entire string section, an ever changing cast of guests that included Ike Turner, Dennis Hopper, and the Harlem Gospel Choir. All with their screen of animation and videos above them.

for both shows, i was dead center, about 6 rows back. Apollo was better than Hammerstein because it was assigned seating instead of GA. for me, the best thing about it was how seamlessly they worked everything together. the songs told a narrative to the screen, and vice-versa. it was a complete experience instead of just some people up on stage. i'll never forget it.
 
Hmmm... well... I saw Elvis, but that was when I was really young and couldn't appreciate the significance, so I'd have to say John Lee Hooker. It was a small club, and my buddy and I had seats at a table right up front. Two loud, boisterious middle-aged black women had the other two seats at the table and ended up sitting between us. I think John Lee must have thought we were couples, because when he first saw us he did a doubletake, and then kept looking at us all through the show and grinning, giving me the thumbs up, etc. Anyhow, it was a heavy-duty helping of classic blues, and I think he enjoyed himself as much as we did. :thu:
 
I'm really torn between two - but I'll probably land on Peter Gabriel on the Secret World tour. Incredible band, incredible showman.
