Fallout 4 is pretty amazing! I've wasted a shit load of time on it (thank you nasty cold) but it's tough to put down. I think I spend most of my time sorting through loot and stashing stuff in workbenches but even that is kinda fun. The PC version seems to be really buggy but well worth the frustration.

Last night I quit my session when my wife tapped me on the shoulder and asked "Did you just say, 'get out of my way, fucking dogmeat?'" I pulled off the headphones and sheepishly replied, "maybe"
 
So, yeah. A couple missions down. This is going to be bad. Really bad. For my marriage.

I'm quite bad at it though. Playing Skyrim certainly helped, just for the understanding of how Bethesda does things, but I have much to learn. I just built my first couple beds though, so that's a good start.

I'm totally not used to first person (or yeah, third if you want) shooters. All of my fighting has been melee or slow (arrows) in Skyrim and Batman. The combat is so fast that I'm having a hard time keeping up and staying alive.

Also, I already went back and started my character over. Not thinking at all about my attributes before I started wasn't the best plan. I have to go back and kill all 300 of the dudes in that chemical factory again. But it will be worth it. I want to focus on settlement building right off, so it needed to be done.
 
I'm taking my sweet time with this game but damn if it isn't a time sink. Hours in the real world seem to cruise by while playing. It's a very immersive game if you want it to be. The PC version is quite buggy as well, which is also a time sink. :tongue:

I'm a knuckle-dragging console player. It hasn't been buggy so far, unlike Skyrim, but my mods will certainly be very limited.
 
We got my oldest a PS4 for Christmas so Fallout 4 is finally in the house. I played on his character for about an hour and I'm excited to start my own. Between work and 3 kids though, I have no idea when that'll be.
That's the very reason I didn't get myself a PS4. No time to really play unless I forego sleep.
We did go buy the 2 inch thick guide last night though. I don't use them for missions, but the weapon building and settlement stuff needs explanation for my rotted grey matter.

I started a 4th character, Ms. Buffy Summer. :embarrassed: I think I finally zeroed in on a SPECIAL load out I like, even though there are some additional perks I'd really like to have and I'm nowhere close to have having the relevant attribute level. For me the best part has been going Lone Wanderer, as you can still travel with Dogmeat and receive the benefits- Damage Reduction and increased carrying capacity. Currently at Level 17 and I feel like I've got a better handle on the game now and it's becoming a lot more immersive.

Only weird thing is that on my previous, no Charisma character I had thriving settlements. Buffy has a Charisma of 6 and has another +4 in CHR gear, but her settlements are struggling to stay around 60% happiness... :(

yeah, Charisma is what I went back to the beginning to change...

We have a thread on that one too. That was the one I had a hard time getting into. The first time I played Fallout 3 I felt kinda like you did. It was too open, they didn't really let you know how the game mechanics worked and it wasn't a lot of fun dying. I stuck with it and now it's one of my favourite series. Just be sure to save often and don't be afraid to start over. Every character you build gets a bit better. There are plenty of online character building guides too, which in a huge game like that isn't cheating at all.
 
I was able to get into it right away because Skyrim has been a very large part of my life for the past 4 years. I'd never played Fallout, but at least some of it was intuitive. I will enjoy playing this game for a very, very long time.

That said, it's not for everyone. If you just want an arcade-style FPS, or if you don't want to do the RP stuff like settlements, food, etc., then there's a lot of other great stuff out there.

My character - regardless of gender - always wears the red sequin dress because it's carry weight is lower than all the other +2 CHA clothing.
