War never changes.

I saw that on the web, but I haven't tried it. Part of the fun of fallout is walking around with a shitty gun and 5 bullets and trying to survive. The ammo is really scarce and expensive in this version, which makes things harder. For a while it seemed like I would spend more on ammo to complete side quests than I would make in loot and payout caps, but I think I finally got past that phase and I am now accumulating caps.

The biggest perk to the Infinite Caps glitch isn't actually getting the caps; it's about how you trick the vendor's inventory into selling you all of their inventory against the imaginary debt. I managed to pick up a couple of cool legendary pieces that way.

I was really enjoying this game, & now for some reason it won't launch. Tried all kinds of things.

Fallout 4 looks beautiful. I've never played the franchise but I'm interested in this. Should I start with 4 or go back into the catalogue first?

Not much reason to go back through the catalog. Fallout 1 and 2 are very different game styles and not much of the back story is necessary. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are more or less parallel stories and do not add much to the content of Fallout 4. So, no, you can just jump in and play Fallout 4. It has enough pre-story and explanation in game to make going back to the older games unnecessary.

Good info, thanks. Are the older games worth playing at this point?

1 and 2 are not. 3 maybe worth a go, but remember that the graphics and such are a decade old. Vegas wasn't that great. I'd just jump straight into 4 and not look back.

One more question, if I download the PC version, is there a way to play on multiple machines? And can progress be accessed from more than one machine (e.g. via an online account) or is progress stored locally only? This looks like a nice game to play on my gaming PC but also something I'd like to have with me when travelling for work and using my laptop.

It runs on steam, but it doesn't seem to support steam cloud saving, so it looks like synching would be a manual affair. Here is a thread talking about it. I never tried it, but it does seem to save on my local disk and not to the steam cloud. I have not looked for a button to change that.

I liked 3 and New Vegas, but each of them, like 4, can take dozens of hours to finish the main quest, all the side quests and do some random exploring. Start with 4, then go back, if you're interested.

This. I loved both 3 and New Vegas.

I've got it, but haven't started it yet.
Just know it's going to be a time sink and I can't get caught up in that right now.

Oh, how I want to though.

I have to wait until Christmas because I'm getting my kid a PS4 and "it wouldn't be fair to play in front of him before then" says the wife. I'm a grown ass man!
Apparently not...

Bought it on steam but haven't played it yet. They had Omikron: The Nomad Soul for like $2 so I grabbed that too. Very cool game that came out around 1999. Bowie did an amazing job with the soundtrack (with Reeves) and lends his voice and face to one of the characters. I recall my PC at the time could barely handle running that game and crashed all the time. I never got to finish it. It looks REALLY dated now of course but it was great game play and a very interesting, dark story.

As my son put it last night, "I only need Fallout 4 and no other. I've been playing it since it came out and it never gets old."

That's my experience with Skyrim. I just recently stopped playing it and it came out 11/11/11!
I'm looking forward to Fallout 4. Gotta wait til Christmas though. :(

It's one of those games you can get totally immersed in. My guitar playing has suffered since Fallout 4 came out.

I'm level 72 now. Seems I lost a few weeks of evenings to the damn game.
