The used market is ridiculous currently...

I took a 4-5ish year off of buying and selling gear. Getting back into it is a hard new reality.

I have no idea how many early 2000's fender mim standards are asking 750. It was 350 new, and it's not exactly vintage.

Same with Jackson and charvels. Your charvel 375 is not worth a grand. Nor is your $350 bc rich worth $800.

I'm starting to feel old.

And somebody tell me what happened to carvin?

Yes! Thank you! This is a freaking correct statement!!!!!!!!

Some retail inside baseball...house brands are very frequently made to be discounted. Very few people ever do pay the “full price” of $100. Instead these sorts of items are on perpetual discount so that you feel like you’re getting a break. That’s pretty much how Macy’s and Kohl’s house brand clothing works, for example.

Plus those MF cases are priced so that the “free shipping” is baked into the price.

Yes but, it was like just yesterday that- Very few people ever do pay the “full price” of $50 ...and, free shipping was baked into the $50 price.

Inflation. Changes in the global market. A trade war with China. I mean, roughly speaking, $50 in year 2000 dollars is $78-ish today.

And shipping costs have changed in recent years. On the consumer-facing side, I know UPS, Fex Ex, etc. went to a scheme that shifted the volume vs. weight equation when calculating pricing.

Case in point, today's SDOTD.

Regular price for a Musician's Gear guitar case is $100? Who the fuck would pay $100 for that? It's on sale for $80. Everyday price should be $50.
Is it just me or have case prices gone nuts in general? I've been looking for a '60s style Fender case with a non-black interior and they're WAY over $200. It wasn't that long ago that a regular SKB case was like $80 and now they're more than double. I totally get that protecting your investment in a guitar makes sense but c'mon!

That's interesting, I've always thought G&G cases were top end, and granted mind you, I just shipped a beat up G&G bass case with a super pristine bass in it clear across the country (noted shock in shipping is granted btw), however it held up, and those were like bordering 140 when last checked.

However that said, I can't see how some simple wood work and cheap materials as they are already, demand such a price. It seems to me I'd rather have a newer plastic frame with some metal providing the outer shape protecting my stuff than a wood, wood glue and such.

A cool old case is rad though.
