Living the dream
So I see some players don't trim their string ends after a change. Seems dangerous and looks disheveled. I trim 'em close (3 /16") You ?

I trim them close on most guitars. I love the double ball end strings on my steinberger, as there are no string ends to worry about.

I've never got the let em hang deal or curl them into loops. Probably because I only have one eye and when I see careless hazards I get nervous

FWIW, they're a lot sharper after you trim them, since the snipper puts a bevel on them and they're more rigid when they're shorter. But I still trim them.

True, but it's harder to poke your eye out with them short.
Why is pubic hair curly?
Because if it was straight it could poke your eye out.

I cut my strings as close to the tuner as I can. Few things in this world hurt as much as a guitar string entering the tip of your finger.

I sometimes cut them close, but most of the time I cut them to about half an inch and then double them over.

Like so:

Trim them close apart from the rare occasion I've had to do a string change on the fly on stage. At that point I'll pull something along the length to make it curl up tight and get on with playing and trim it later.

Back in 80s, some folks believed that not cutting the string gave you more sustain.

Yeah, the guy I bought my first guitar from told me not to cut the strings until they had stretched a bit, or it'd ruin the tone (and he was a fantastic country guitarist). So I used to curl mine.

I'll still curl them if I can't find my wire-cutters.

I cut em at about 3/8" and bend the end down so I don't accidentally poke my finger.
Can't stand the disheveled thing. I value my eyesight and expect you to value mine as well.

Split post tuners. What string ends?

This is my preference where I can do it. Most of my Fender styles either have these or are getting converted to these.

As a guitar tech, it annoys me if I see a guitar with the string ends not properly trimmed at the headstock...
