Long story short, our keyboard player Gary plays in a cover band with a female singer who would like to use the Metropolitans (Thats, Gary, me, Tyler and Martin) as her band for some upcoming gigs. For me this is a bit of a departure since its been a long time since I've played in a cover band with both a female singer and a keyboard player. I actually have to learn guitar parts and songs that are more current and that female singers sing. Most of whats on the list are not on my regular list.

So far today I've worked on

Poker Face - Lady Gaga
Born this Way - Lady Gaga
Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
Zombie - The Cranberries
I Hate Myself for Loving You - Joan Jett

I'll be curious to see how this works out. I know that the band all plays great and apparently the singer sings really well and is easy to work with. Are these songs that folks want to hear though? The older Fleetwood Mac and Cranberries songs wouldn't pass muster on my other gig..too "rock concert" and not enough party. We have three hours of material to work out and I think I know about half. I'm going into this with an open mind since apparently they work in the other band quite a bit and in much different venues than I do with AST....


I guess we'll see on October 13th in San Clemente.
 
We recently added a chick singer in addition to our front man and these are the we have added so far

it's a job. I just want to play some different stuff and make some money. I'm a little burnt out on the stuff the other cover band does so this should be a nice diversion.

I don't think this group will be doing much country music. I'd love to do that Carrie Underwood "Before he cheats" or whatever its called though.
