So I threw some sausages on the George Foreman the other night...

baimun

Funkasaurus Rex
... made some red beans and rice...

... sat down to enjoy some tasty sausage, beans, and rice.... and.....

This is the conversation that followed:

"Um.... why do these sausages taste like the cardboard box that sausage was shipped in?"

"Those are vegetarian sausages."

"You mean there's no meat in my meat?"

"They're better for you."

"How?.... so I can live longer to track down the bastard who stole my sausage and beat him to death with his own arm?"

"Why do you have to be so dramatic all the time."

Dude, this sounds so much like a conversation my wife and I would have

No shit! I almost never eat hot dogs or sausages, but if I want one, it sure as hell better be made from meat, not soy or textured vegetable protein... Reminds me of my vegetarian friends who always have "Tofurkey" for Thanksgiving... If you are against eating meat, then why the fuck are you eating make believe meat, in the shape of a cooked turkey??!! And, if you want to eat vegetarian or vegan, there are lots of yummy dishes that are not trying to simulate meat...

OMG, I agree with Paulski. I have never understood why some vegetarians must make ways to pretend they are eating meat. I love a lot of vegetarian dishes, that are just that, vegetarian. I have never felt the need to eat something that wanted to pretend it was something else.

Psychological/comfort associations with some types of food is still strong, even with vegetarians. Not to mention that sometimes they may want food that fits the appearance of "normal". There's probably a host of other possible explanations too

I suppose my problem with it is the people who try to get me to eat it by trying to trick me into it. My Aunt was terrible about that. We have another friend who is always trying to convince us that we really do like things by hiding them in the food he cooks, only he tried to convince me once that I like clams by baking them in something, except it's not that I don't like clams, it's that I'm allergic to them.

I'm alergic to some kinds of mushrooms. I had a vegi-burger once that almost turned me inside out.

Sorry, but mushrooms are NOT a meat alternative in my book. :annoyed:

Maybe you could convince your aunt that a sausage is really a cucumber???

No they are not, but they can be tasty, I'll hide some in one of our casseroles for Pragestock next year and let you find out how great they are. Now which ones are you allergic too...umm, just checking.

Yeah, all that is screwed up....fight back with some hidden capcasin extract to convince them they like hot stuff
