Supreme Court On Gay Marriage: 'Sure, Who Cares'

WASHINGTON—Ten minutes into oral arguments over whether or not homosexuals should be allowed to marry one another, a visibly confounded Supreme Court stopped legal proceedings Tuesday and ruled that gay marriage was “perfectly fine” and that the court could “care less who marries whom.”

“Yeah, of course gay men and women can get married. Who gives a shit?” said Chief Justice John Roberts, who interrupted attorney Charles Cooper’s opening statement defending Proposition 8, which rescinded same-sex couples’ right to marry in California. “Why are we even seriously discussing this?”

“Does anyone else up here care about this?” Roberts added as his eight colleagues began shaking their heads and saying, “No,” “Nah,” and “I also don’t care about this.” “Great. Same-sex marriage is legal in the United States of America. Do we have anything of actual import on the docket, or are we done for the day?”

Before Roberts officially ended proceedings, sources confirmed that all nine justices were reportedly dumbfounded, asking why the case was even coming before them and wondering aloud if some sort of mistake had been made. Calling marriage equality a “no-brainer,” members of the High Court appeared not just confused but irritated when Proposition 8 defenders argued that gay marriage was not a national issue but a state matter.

Moreover, when Attorney Cooper said that gay marriage could harm the moral fabric of the country and hurt the institution of marriage, Associate Justice Sotomayor asked, “What are you even talking about?” while Justice Anthony Kennedy reportedly muttered, “You got to be fucking kidding me,” under his breath.

“I have to interject, Mr. Cooper,” Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said as the attorney argued that the government has legitimate reasons to discourage same-sex couples from getting married. “Do you honestly care this much about this issue? Because if you do, you’re a real goddamn idiot. Actually, you sound as dumb as dog shit, and you are wasting our time.”

“Should gay marriage be legal?” Ginsburg continued. “Yes. Done. Case closed. Goodbye. Christ, were we seriously scheduled to spend the next few months debating this?”

Even the typically conservative wing of the court maintained that, despite their personal views, it would be “downright silly” for them to rule that same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.

“I’m a strict Originalist, Mr. Cooper, and I’m looking at a 14th Amendment that forbids any state from denying any person equal protection of the law,” Associate Justice Antonin Scalia said. “So, unless we are the most uncivilized society on the face of God’s green earth, I think we can all agree that a gay person is in fact a person. So what I’m saying is, who the fuck are we to tell a person who he or she can get married to? This is dumb. Can we talk about a real case now, please?”

Before adjourning the court, Roberts said there would be no official opinion on the case because it’s just “common goddamn sense,” and then addressed gay men and women directly.

“Get married, don’t get married, do whatever you want,” Roberts said. “It’s the opinion of this court that we don’t give two shits what you do.”

“C’mon, let’s go get some food,” added Roberts, as the eight other justices followed him out the door.

Also, I generally refrain from posting anything political on FB but to me this isn't politics in a "republican vs. democrat" sort of way. I do see it as a civil rights issue and if someone is going to disagree with me over that then good for them...they are entitled to their own opinion but if they are going to be jerks about it then I dont need to share newsfeed space with them.

Agreed. Like I said earlier, the people decrying the civil rights of the LGBT community look just as foolish as the ones who supported segregation and keeping women from voting.

Facebook is full of insecure assholes.

My reader's digest version is that I feel all citizens should have all the same rights. Period.
(unless you lose them after getting convicted of a felony)

"Your honor, this whore brought home half the bar from the Habana Inn and expected me to serve them all drinks while he tied them up! I don't have to put up with kind of disrespect."

"Shut up you little bitch!"

"Oh, no you didn't!"

This was my favorite bit:

"I'm a strict Originalist, Mr. Cooper, and I'm looking at a 14th Amendment that forbids any state from denying any person equal protection of the law," Associate Justice Antonin Scalia said. "So, unless we are the most uncivilized society on the face of God's green earth, I think we can all agree that a gay person is in fact a person. I find Facebook entertaining but have lost a FB friend here and there. I'm not sure how many have dumped me because I really dont keep count but I have dropped a couple. One or two because I posted something regarding real estate, I think a house I had listed or something and they made some dumbass comment. It wasnt that it was necessarily negative about the house, I just didnt want anyone to think I was friends with such an idiot.

The political stuff gets pretty annoying and I do have a couple of FB friends that get on the very verge of being on my nerves but I think I have only dumped one for political stuff. And he is registered with the same party. He was just so over the top.

Anyway, no real drama on my page today. Some folks showing support but havent seen anyone challenging them. I wish both sides of any political or in this case, sort of political debate simply show their support and stop calling the other side idiots. It doesnt make for a great argument and makes both parties look intolerant. And that has nothing to do with this thread, just what I have observed over time. Argument or debate is fine, rhetoric annoys me.

In 20-30 years, kids in school are going to be scratching their heads in wonder that this was even an issue...

My Dad had two off his waiters get in a fight (shouting match) because his boyfriend (the other waiter) bought the wrong dishwasher. ONce the mayhem was contained, it was really hard not to laugh because the whole thing was so stupid.

Oh boy... i'm gonna have to stay away from FB for the rest of the day or I'm going to get pissed.

Nicole - Actually Brittney im on your side with this one. Whoever Anthony is, is wrong. My brother is "gay" was never "gay" until his junior year in high school and now all of a sudden is on and off choosing to be and not to be gay depending on the person he meets that day. So for those of us who are pro choice I say have respect for other people's opinions of you wish to have respect for yours as well. There's a reason people believe the way that they do and every person on this earth is entitled to their own opinion.

Anthony- "every person on this earth is entitled to their own opinion".... except me... I'm "Wrong". And being surrounded by such open mindedness and support I'm sure your brother never had any pressure forcing him to act straight.

I actually messed up this morning and posted to two forumites because I did not know what the symbol was. Just thought that they both liked something I have never seen. Irony had it that my iPhone didn't post so both didn't understand my apology for a pic I had no clue what it was.

As for Baimun's it was no big deal after I figured it out.
