It’s been a while since I actually bought a guitar but I’ve been rehearsing my songs and I want to play live so I figured an acoustic would be good for a solo act. It’s just a cheap Yamaha APX600 but the smaller size suits me and it sounds fine for my needs. Acoustic snobs probably won’t care
 
It’s not especially loud acoustically but it has a balanced tone to it. Decent bass and mids for a small guitar. Not boxy sounding. Yamaha did ok for a budget piece.
The finish is outstanding at this price point. Found a couple of very minor flaws but seriously minor.

I reasoned Yamaha would be a safe bet for buying sight unseen. This was a shop floor guitar and they claimed it had been set up properly and played well.
They were truthful. The setup is fine, no dead frets or buzzing. The finish is outstanding for a guitar at this price.

At worst Yamaha instruments can be just decent. I've never come across anything that's been actually poor from them. Their price to quality ratio has always been great.
My drums, bass and acoustic guitar are all Yamaha, and over the last 15-20 years of using them all I've had to replace is one tom holder and glue the bridge on the acoustic (not unusual a bridge lifts on a 15+ year old acoustic, especially considering the climate up here) .
