It's that people buy the flavor of the month and then sell for the next one. Wampler isn't immune to that phenomenon.

Also, this whole cloning thing that's being discussed, I hate to break it to everyone, but 99% of pedals out there are a clone or modification of a handful of designs.

It's just a difference in philosophy, I guess. I (and most of us here) buy because a product fills a need. Honestly, I could give a flying fuck if something's popular. If I could find my old DOD Grunge (first model) it would probably be on my pedalboard. They are very... uh... dynamic in their desires over there. LOL

Yeah, are there many ODs that aren't TS variations?

I dunno. There's not a lot of selling here, but there's plenty of buying.

Both my Red Llama and MI Audio Tube Zone are considered as overdrives by their manufacturers. At this point "overdrive" is a marketing term, and not reflective of topology.

Well, I mean like the Bad Monkey, the MXR GT-OD/Wylde OD/Classic OD, the Wampler Clarksdale, and a ton of others are just TS derivatives. I tend to consider those pedals different from "distortions," like the Rat, the BMP (which I don't really ever think of as a proper fuzz), Metal Zone, DS-1, etc.

Lots gets sold there sure, but it's a significantly bigger forum than we are here. The emporium goes back years and they're using the archive to help buyers and sellers research pricing. It's the best thing you can use TGP for.

Sure, everyone produces their version of the TS, which is really a BOSS Overdrive variant. But merely using the word "Overdrive" doesn't make it a TS either, though that version is way too common for it's own good.

As for distortions, they cover a wide range of topologies as well.

Why is one flavor of fuzz any more or less valid than another? EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL FUZZ.

What convinced me to buy it was a video comparing 4 or 5 different choruses. Out of them all, my favorite was the Ibanez and I couldn't tell this apart from the Ibanez. It's got a nice subtle shimmer if set right and works splendidly with my Teles clean.

Now, like I said, I have no idea if I may have lucked out and gotten the only good model Joyo makes, although you saying your Phase 90 clone sounds good, too, does give me faith in them.

The thing here with Joyo... They copy schematics from other pedals and use surface-mount components to keep the cost down. Construction-wise I'm not seeing a very big difference in component quality compared to the newer MXR stuff with surface-mount components. The problem may be when they copy a pedal where nobody even liked the original. LOL

Yep, that's the one. Pretty generic chorus, and I don't know what it's a clone of, but it gets the job done for me. :shrug:

Despite the opinion of many devoted to the fuzz face circuit (which I still can't figure out how to use to my satisfaction) I prefer the EHX little big muff. Oh well.

With regard to the Joyos, I really don't know if they are any good or not, or will hold up. @GilmourD and others who have them, I really hope they work out well for you. And I have no problem with inexpensive gear. I love my Bad Monkey that I purchased for $25 used, and have no interest in finding another boutique TS variant. (though I do have a hand built clone that does sound quite a bit different from the Monkey). My chorus is a relatively inexpensive Boss that I got used as well.

But I also support buying well built gear that will last, and get a bit skeptical of the cheap flavors of the month too, such as waves of Behringer purchasing, the Dano pedals, some people favoring some First Act pedals sold at ToysR'Us, etc. I have been doing this long enough now to see the waves of cheap flavors of the month get cast aside as well. I hope the Joyo's are good for all that purchased them. But I also support @Packerbacker in saving up for something that he knows he will like and use a long time.

I think it's always a good idea to buy quality gear when you can, especially pedals which can take a beating. I do my best to hear with my ears and not my eyes when I'm demo-ing pedals, and that's resulted in a few refreshingly inexpensive purchases over the years. But if I hear "that sound" that I just can't live without, I'll spend the cash every time.
