National Hockey League 2018-2019

Hurricanes bought out Marleau's contract. Perhaps San Jose will pick him up for a year as well and he & Joe can retire after next season(?).
 
That's the rumour around here but he's got to be last on the priority list. I always thought they would do a 1 day sign and retire with him but he's not ready to retire yet so it won't be that. They can't waste $$ on him with the others they have to sign still but if they can get the other deals done (or other guys sign with other teams) they'll bring him back so he can retire a Shark. The organization has been pretty good about doing that with other players
 
Good move for Pittsburgh...they are still a good team but not good enough to carry that floater.

Pavelski is gone to Dallas. Sorry to see it but then again 3yrs/21M for a 35 year old is a lot. I have a lot of respect for his play but he's not a big guy and took a pounding in the playoffs. I knew they would have trouble keeping him after signing EK and they needed to keep the young guys. They did sign Meirer for 4 years so that's good.

Montreal has offered Aho a 5 year deal. That almost never happens in the NHL with RFA. It will be interesting to see what the effects are. I'm guessing that Caroline will match but they probably didn't want to.

Bob signs with Florida for 7 years :eek:

The Breadman goes to NYR for a ton of money I think

Panarin got 7/81 from the Rangers. Word on the street here is the Jackets made a last-ditch offer yesterday at 8/96 :eek:. Jackets had also offered BOB 7/72, but he wanted the ocean :shrug: and settled for slightly less. Duchene was allegedly also offered more to stay, but went to Nashville because he's a big country music fan :eyeroll:. And lastly, Ryan Dzingal, who went to Ohio State, and was a deadline deal get this season who was excited when he arrived, declined to even talk about an extension here.

OK, I know Columbus isn't a glamourous destination, but still better than at least half of the NHL cities/franchises. We knew Panarin and likely BOB were gone no matter what, but for Duchene to turn down top dollar, and a lesser piece like Dzingal not even considering coming back, something tells me a) something is rotten within the front office, or b) Torts has not quite mellowed as much as we've been led to believe. Looks like the Jackets may be back in the dumpster for a long while...

Meanwhile, my first love the Blackhawks got Andrew Shaw back, and they stole Lehner from the Isles, which likely means that this is definitely Corey Crawford's last season here - if he even lasts that long.
 
Caroline matched not a surprise but the owner is probably pissed that he had to pay more upfront $$ than he likely wanted. I was surprised that Lehner was picked up by the Hawks, for some reason I thought they had a pipeline behind Crawford and I expected Crawford to hang around for a few more years.

Yeah, the Hawks have Colin Delia, who was kinda pushed into quite a few games last season when Crawford and Forsberg were hurt (or, in the case or Forsberg, horrible), but I guess the front office wants him to have some more games in the minors under his belt. Also, Crawford's going into the final year of his contract, and with his recent history, they are not going to re-sign him (aging, oft-concussed veteran making $6M a year).

Good pickup for them, though - if Crawford gets hurt again, Lehner will start with most likely Delia as the backup; if Lehner returns to having "issues" (let's hope not for his sake), then they are only committed for one season, and Delia can take over next year. Really, it's a win/win/win situation.

I think signing jones to a six-year, $34m contract is madness, pure and simple. I would have preferred to have Pavelski stay, and pick up another keeper - ANY other keeper. Jones is not the horse you're going to ride to the Stanley Cup, and I think Doug Wilson is an idiot...
 
It is a good pick up for the Hawks especially if they do plan to move on from Crawford

Given the year Jones had last year NO ONE was going to take that contract. the previous year maybe but not last year. They did ride Jones to the SCF so yes it can be done and he was better in the playoffs than in the regular season but he still had some oh no moments. I'm not sure how much was just him (some for sure) and how much was the D which made some bad mistakes in games I saw. I'll give him a pass on last year if he is back to form this year, otherwise it will look like a bad deal for sure
 
Lehner is good but he had a team D in front of him...it will be tough in Chicago for him as I think they were poor defensively last year which puts a lot more on the goalie.
