My birthday was a week ago and Ms. Dmn23 told me that my present would be a surprise and that I should leave this Saturday morning open. She didn't give any hints beyond that.

So imagine my surprise when I realize we're driving out to the racetrack and she's putting me in a Formula Ford-ish car.

I HAD A BLAST.

I'd be shocked if I got above 60-70mph. It's a very tight course, plus I've never done anything like this in my life, and I'd also declined the extra insurance coverage. So I was a bit...um...pokey.

Still, what a hoot. Every input requires a tremendous amount of effort and the car is giving feedback the entire time. You feel everything. The sensation of speed is fantastic and everything is so immediate.

Plus I did pass someone. So there's that!

They also offer ride-alongs in the Miatas if that's your thing. So they've got a pro driver spanking those little Mazdas and they left me and everyone else standing still.

Anyone who insists a Miata is a chick car really, really needs to reevaluate his belief system.

i had a '72 MGB.......i know exactly what you mean.......it might top out at 110......but the curves you can carve are spectacular.

She'd probably have a cerebral hemorrhage if she heard you say that. I once referred to her as my girlfriend and that nearly caused an embolism.

We don't quite know what we are. She's easily one of my all-time closest friends and we do just about everything together. We're...well, friendly friends.

She's my person and I'm hers. That's about the best I can offer.
 
That's cool and a very cool gift. Mrs Nuke wouldn't since she was not really happy when I did a 3 day racing class at Laguna Seca with Skip Barber in similar cars.
But that stuff is all kinds of fun. I would do it again in a heart beat but for our marriage sake (and the fact that it's really pricy and I'm a fixed income guy now) I won't
 
Wow, that looks fun as hell.

And, yeah, even a little 4 banger miata that is race prepped is fast enough to make just about anyone without racing experience fill their trousers. Miatas are really quick little race cars.
