Hot or Not? Les Paul Custom Pro. Opinion?

A good friend of mine is looking for her first electric and is kind of set on the Les Paul vibe. She played one of these in the store and loves it. Anyone have any input that I would want to give her?

I have one and switched out the electronics for normal stuff because it kept cutting out when I switched to the neck. Other than that and the fact that I bought it with a busted headstock it's a good solid guitar.

I've played one and its a decent guitar. Fit and finish were ok, not great, iffy electronics. But if your friend loves it (that's all that matters for a a first guitar) she should go for it.

I gigged one in an oldies/wedding band back around 1998-2002. One of those stamped "B stock" on the headstock, but I could never find the flaw. Looked great and played great. The pickups and electronics were kinda meh, but not so bad that I ever changed em out. They worked fine, just the humbuckers were pretty average.
I only got rid of it when the band called it quits.
I think it would make a great first guitar as long as she doesnt mind the weight of a LP.

My general experience (which isn't that extensive) is that Epi Les Pauls can be all over the place. Some versions seem to get sub par electronics, while others get good stuff.
Fit and function seem to be fine. Frets and nut were OK.

I'd probably opt for a used Gibson LP special or studio (although prices have gone through the roof for those lately).

I’d never shy away from an Epi, or any brand really, as long as it played well and sounded good for what I wanted/needed.

I’m still stuck in the mind set of a few years ago where a rack full of Epis and a rack full of Gibsons need the same degree of inspection and testing to find the one.
I’ve heard that QA for Gibson has gotten better in the last few years or so, but I haven’t heard that Epi QA has fallen off.
So, if an Epi has what I want and I find a good specimen, why pay more for a logo?

The modern is certainly a superior guitar. Do those Epiphones cost as much? If I’m dropping $2k-$3k on a guitar, I wouldn’t invest in an epi.

otherwise the OP guitar certainly looks great. I’d make sure it’s a good one. No wonky neck or shitty nut/tuning issues. Make sure the action is set nice and easy to play. It’s hard enough to learn guitar, if your guitar has bad action or won’t stay in tune, it’s terribly discouraging. A gorgeous guitar that doesn’t play well isn’t worth having.

They are like $750-$800 new these days. I think I paid around $300 for the B stock one back in the late 90s and sold it for a hundred more after about 5 yrs of playing it.
I seriously considered getting another one not long ago but went for a slightly used SG Standard instead.

I think he’s talking about the Epiphone LP Modern. They are around $500 on Reverb.

I'm not very happy with you
I have been eyeing the Gibson version for a few months now, but can't bring myself to pay that kind of money for one, now I am fighting the urge the to hit Reverb and snag one these. Like I need another guitar.

I was looking at them for a while too. Seems like a great Les Paul. Haven’t played one though.

I loved that scooped out neck joint. Pickups were good and it had the typical new bells and whistles electronics which can be good or bad. Nice solid release for Gibson and Epiphone though. Purists be damned.
