Dig it! Les Paul body and neck kit

I hear the cries in the distance of a Les Paul Jr double cutaway calling me. Slowly I turn, inch by inch to get away from its Siren's Call......

i'm not sure about the tenon. from the pics, it looks like the bottom is flat. can't really tell much though. would have to see in person.

yes. or worse, they don't touch the body all, and the only part that's actually glued in is the fretboard. that said, while i don't think you'll have those problems, it's something to look out for.

Crap, that would completely suck. Hey, I think I'll ask them if it touches... I would assume that is the whole point of "precision", but you never know...
 
Well, the kit arrived... No damage whatsoever, unlike the horror stories I have read on other kits out there... This is not for the Gibson fanboy purists, as there are differences...

2 piece laminated neck, 11 degree headstock angle, tenon bottom parallel with bottom of body, short tenon, no binding... No biggie for me, as I have been playing a 5 piece laminated neck for 25 years, and it is still straight with the truss rod loose... Slightly less headstock angle means less prone to break, and there is no scarf joint...

Body also has no binding, and I don't care... Plain maple top... They offer a quilted top for more, as they do the binding, but I chose the more affordable option... I do like that this is a solid carved top, unlike other kits that have a veneer...

Tenon fits perfect in all areas, and I can hold up the guitar by the neck without it glued yet, but it is not too tight... This thing is milled up really clean...

I still will be building a redwood Les Paul from scratch, as I have the wood, but I know this will turn into a nice axe, and gives me a Les Paul already milled out of traditional materials for the cost of the materials alone...

It's really well milled. Those guys know how to program their machines very well... I forgot to mention the fret job is really nice... No sharp frets, and it appears to not need any leveling... Also, the Jescar fret wire has already been polished... We'll see after I have her strung up for a week if I even need to do any leveling at all...
 
I'm glad this turned out so well. I've read a bunch of horror story threads about LP kits on the web. Looks like you got a good one.
 
I can't wait to see the end result as many others are. Those pics look really cool. If all goes well, I might bite on the LP Jr double cutaway kit in the future.

This was the only company I heard good things about, and the only one putting up closeup shots... The owner answered my emails and let me know when it was shipped... You should see the crap workmanship some of these companies are putting out....

Good question... It is a very plain top, but I still hate to cover it with paint, although a gold top would be pretty cool... I don't know if the top is too plain for a burst, or not... One thing I do know is that I want to do a really nice finish on it, and take my time... If I do decide to burst it, I will probably bind the body... I guess I never cared about finishing before, but lately I have been getting more into it, and if I ever want to sell anything I make, the finish will definitely matter... For this, though, even Tru-Oil would be nice...

that's the part i was worried about. glad to see that it's how it should be. can't wait to see the end result! :thu:
