Decisions, decisions...

a buddy of mine had an Epi SG years ago, the very cheapest one you could buy.
I hated it, wouldn't stay in tune for beans.

then another fella had a more upscale one, and it kicked ass.

Just to throw it out there, I would go with the Ibanez AS53 over the Epi Dot Studio. I've found the build quality on the Ibanez semi-hollows to generally be better than the Dot Studios I've seen. Plus you get a bound fretboard with dot inlays, the body is bound in white instead of black, and it has chrome hardware instead of black (unless, of course, you love the look of the black). Both guitars are the same price - $299. I included a photo of the tobacco brown one below, from Sweetwater. Most of the "transparent black" ones actually look more like the brown Epi Dot Studio in person, despite the stock photos in which they look more black. You can see actual photos of the transparent black one if you google it.

Terry, if you have a GC store near you, look for the black Dot Royales - they are going for $269 through tomorrow.

I have heard bad things about the bolt on neck Epiphone SGs.

OK, maybe I should just concentrate on a semi-hollow-body, then.
