Prages is a longtime Ibanez hater. it's in his genetics or something.

i just don't like the satin finished Artcores. they feel very cheap for the money, and i think the next rung up looks and feels much better.

Epi Dot Studios are fantastic guitars. I absolutely love mine. I have no problems recommending a used Dot Studio.

I can sell you an Artcore when I get back home from vacation. I have a AM73 and a AS73 I don't need.
 
If you like fat necks you will enjoy the Dot Studio.
I had a Wildkat for a bit and it was pretty slick. The P90s kicked all kinds of ass.
If you are gearing towards the SG, IMO I would recommend getting the G400 or higher. They have since discontinued the '61 line with the P90s and wrap around tail peice but those are pretty awesome if you can find one. Same with the G400 Custom, I have come across those used for quite cheap.
If you are really considering going the hollow/semihollow route I would try to dig up another $100 and look for a used Godin 5th Ave. Not one bad thing to be said about those guitars. Absolutely fantastic instruments. Plus you can slap on acoustic strings and it is an acoustic. Toss in a pickup and electric strings, now you have a jazz box. Which reminds me, I need to get another one.
