i'm gonna go start sanding on my little project now

so...after some wet sanding with 600 grit and mineral spirits, second coats have been applied...3rd coats hopefully tomorrow...

wet sanded to 800 grit...3rd coats applied...I didn't feel I was getting enough coverage with the rag so I switched to a brush...I'm also thinkung of going to 5 or 6 coats...if not more...

wet sanded to 800 (again) fourth coats are on...the tele is done with this one...I wiped most of the coat off, so the wood isn't absorbing any more of the oil...with a finish like this too much will never completely cure, and will feel sticky and gummy to the touch...

...I'll have to wait and see on the strat...right now I'm leaning towards another coat or 2, but I'll decise that after I sand it...

oh...what the hell...

...I shot them using forced flash...the strat is still quite tacky and should cure alot smoother...

...just finished the final sanding with 1500 grit and mineral spirits, and applied the final coat of paste wax...

...I recently got a pair of buffing pads that work with my RandomOrbit sander...they are awesome, and I highly recommend them...they can be found here...

AND NOW...here they are, in close-up...waxed, buffed and ready for assembly...

I wish GFS would offer a hardtail strat body. I wrote to 'em about it, but didn't get a reply.

I'd like to do a strat or tele in a black and red SG theme with a couple of soapbars.

- A matchin' P-bass would be cool, too.

The Inevitable Problem...



So the next step, logically enough, is to assemble the necks, tuners, etc...

So I set to work...

I have a set of good Fender sealed tuners, and they went on the strat...

...using a set of Allparts small tuner screws...

For the tele I have an old set of Fender F-tuners, kluson style...and I have a set of GFS conversion bushings for installation in the modern 3/8" hole...

...unfortunately the Kluson-type tuner shafts don't fit in the new bushings...which they are supposed to...

SO...I need to figure out an inexpensive fix for the tele tuner issues...
