So I was trying to decide between a Gretsch Electromatic 5420T in black, or a FSR 5420T in Smoke Green. Although the black was a classic look, I was leaning toward the Smoke Green, in part because it was about $80 less, and partly because I liked that I would have a more unique look. Then I checked Amazon to see if they had any good deals, and I found that they had one last 5120 in a Sunburst finish. I ordered that one, because I had played one several years ago, and fell in love with the sound. That was the first time I really thought about a Grestch guitar. Tonight I decided that since it was the 5120 that made me sit up take notice, it was the 5120 I should buy.

Here are some pics of one like the one I bought. It should ship Monday or Tuesday, and will probably be here by the end of next week.

The last time they hiked the price on that guitar they must have upgraded the tops, because that is GORGEOUS. I’m always kicking myself for not buying a 5120 when GC had then on sale for $449.

I can only hope that mine will be as nice. This was just a representative picture that was on the net, and the photos are very well done. Mine is the last new one that I was able to find.
 
Nice! I think you're going to like it.
I didn't realize they went to a fixed bridge on those.

I stuck with the stock pickups for quite some time but those are what people complain about the most on those guitars. At some point you might want to TV Jones or some other filtertron type. I would also recommend getting the larger spring for the Bigsby. It's a quick, cheap, easy upgrade.

I totally missed that when I went with those pics . . . my bad! That must have been an upgrade that was made. The down side of the floating bridge that the 5120 has is that if not perfectly mated to the arch top, it can rattle. The one I played in the store several years back sounded just fine, so I'm hoping mine will be too.

Thanks for the thoughts on upgrades. Getting this at a good price does make upgrading down the road a little easier to consider.
