I think what he's trying to say is that the strings don't pull straight through the nut on most Gibsons. Because of that, attention has to paid to the G and D strings so they don't bind.
Plus, the angled (or angeled) pull will wear those slots faster, compounding the problem.
It's not unique to Gibson, but to any guitar that doesn't pull straight through.
I don't know if straight string pull was on Leo's mind when he designed his headstocks, but it definitely benefits easier tuning. Teles and strats are much more forgiving on nut than Gibsons.
 
His rant on brass and buffalo is warrant less. Any good material will work if it's cut right.

And he can't write or spell very well, either.

My theory is that the guitar got a bum nut from the get go, just like the bum Plek jobs that some have gotten.

That's pretty much what I said. At least he's not the guy saying the guitar needed a whole new neck. LOL

Probably.
Most Gibson nuts I've seen are stock straight-cut factory nuts. They haven't been tuned.

A well cut nut will allow for the side pull.

And Gibson should do that at the factory.
