I had some time to kill yesterday so I stopped by GC to just browse. Nothing really jumped out at me until I was literally making my way to the exit...

That's when I saw it. It was beautiful. It called my name. I HAD to take a closer look. It was a new Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro III in Pelham Blue. Sweet baby Gebus it was gorgeous. I picked it up, it felt like a tank. I played it, it played like a choir of angels. It was tagged $399. I don't need it. I WANT it. The switch tip was broken off. Bummer. There was a pretty good dent in the back on the top edge. Bummer. I can replace the switch easily, and the 1" dent if arrested now won't be a problem later. The guy I usually work with wasn't there, so I had them set it aside with my phone number for him to call me. He did. I'm in trouble now. If he gets the green light from El Jeffe, I'll be picking it up this afternoon.
For well UNDER $300.

Ya know, it might be Chinese, but it's a damn nice guitar. It has legit Gibson pups, push-pull coil tap, and quality electronics. I'm sure the hardware is junk, but there ain't much of it and high quality replacements are easy to come by. This was the heaviest LP I think I've ever picked up. The neck is a BEAST. Significantly chunkier than any LP I've played, and the satin finish on the back reveals beautiful wood grain while giving it a great balance between slippery and sticky. I love it.

OGG, those are cool for the price, but is it used? That particular model (which is recent) doesn’t come stock with Gibson pickups, although the limited “plus” (I think that is what it’s called) may have the better pickups, plus a pull-boost circuit:

Either way, I like those more than the previous Pro II models - the IIs had a rounder, rougher-feeling neck.

EDIT: yeah, only the higher-end model comes with Classic 57s ( :eek: ); I think the “non-plus” is the only version that comes in Pelham; the higher-end ones are flamey.

For those who are curious, I walked out the door with the guitar, the gigbag, and 3 sets of balanced tension D'addario 10-46 strings (been wanting to try them) for less than $400 after tax. Might be my greatest score in that price range yet. This thing is truly sweet!

EDIT: I've been home for less than 10 minutes and it's already getting strap-locks installed.
 
Wasn't that model, or something very much like it, being flogged by Bonamassa in the MF catalog a while ago? I have to say, those Chinese guitars are getting more appealing all the time. I was looking at a Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus the other day - really nice set of features you can't really find on an MIM or US Fender...

Remember when inexpensive Asian guitars were mostly shitty Strat copies with pot metal parts? Amazing how things have changed.
 
Yeah - I have a prototype “Z-series” Breedlove electric that was made ‘somewhere’ in Asia (since it’s a prototype, it’s not marked with country of origin) that is better than any Gibson SG I’ve ever had (and I’ve had several).

The hardware on my Epi is the "locking" type where it doesn't screw together, but rather just pushes right together and has strategic tight points that keep it from falling apart when unstrung. It holds up well for me, of course I don't sweat Predator acid.
