Modern Saint

After years of looking around for an Ovation 12-String, I finally found a used one that plays and sounds well and also moderately priced - total score!

Nice. I used to have a Dillion Ovation knock off. It was a nice guitar. Sold it when I got the Takamine.

Now go out and play some Melissa Etheridge

Almost bought her signature model a few years ago as I found a used one for $1100. This baby cost me $599 with case and tracing the serial number was made in 1991. These models began sales in 1992 and is made in the New Hampshire, USA - Woo Hoo! I believe the street prices was about $1199 or $1299 with a list of $1695 according the Ovation site.

As for Etheridge I do like the tunes "Come to my Window" and "I'm the Only One" but I prefer to play Matchbox 20 as well as some other artists besides my own stuff on it. In fact I will be using this with my 6-String Ovation at an upcoming solo gig next week. Breaking her in!

What's the bowl depth? I always found the shallows comfortable, but the deep bowls sounded so much better (not just louder). The mid-depth bowls also sounded pretty good, but putting a nice solid spruce top on a plastic bowl doesn't seem right. The Adamas guitars, graphite tops on Ovation bowls...some of the best sounding acoustics I've ever played. That said, I'm no traditionalist, e.g.: the type that needs a dreadnaught without a cutaway, or all solid wood, or only from a certain era from a certain manufacturer or builder. I like a nice even tone on a cutaway (doesn't actually have to be an A/E though), and I'll manipulate my technique to accommodate different needs.
